The Acceleration of Age
Along with acceleration of age comes the slowing down of the body. In the Book of Ecclesiastes (12:1-7) there is a descriptive illustration of this: It refers to the white hair of old age, and the halting gait of the elderly. Life itself in all its preciousness is cut off. After death the spirit returns to God for judgment. Growing old is compared to the decline of a great estate. There is no such thing as eternal youth here upon this earth, one day, as the Book of Ecclesiastes describes, there will be an acceleration of age to the point that the body, and all its God given abilities, will slowly come to a halt. There will be a time as one grows old, that they will reflect on the accomplishments, or non-accomplishments of the past as King Solomon did as recorded in the Book of Ecclesiastes.
What Will One's Lot in Life Be?
When acceleration of age comes upon us how will we see ourselves in the picture of life itself? What will our attributes towards God's kingdom be? Will our portrait be one of seeking out the kingdom of God, the needs of others, or accumulation of things that benefit our own enjoyment? King Solomon in his declining age realized that all was vexation of spirit and no profit under the sun but for someone else to rule other?A reflective mirror sometimes is needful for one to look into. If one could see their life as God sees it what would be revealed to us? There is a reflective mirror if one will search it out through God's Word and be willing to adjust their life accordingly.
The World's Standard
In the world one's status is measured by accumulation of property or material things; biblical standards or the conditioning of one's soul towards a heavenly gain does not measure up to worldly standards. When I reflected on my own past, I realized that with the resources that God has blessed me with I could have had a better home, car, and other material possessions, but had chosen to utilize my gain to help in God's kingdom and those in need. I do not want to look back, as King Solomon, who realized his gain was nothing but vanity, with little significance to God's kingdom.
The Conclusion of the Whole Matter
King Solomon seen nothing but vanity and vexation of spirit. But he then said: Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter. Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man (Ecclesiastes 12:13). Have you made that commitment today? Have you accepted the only begotten Son of God into your heart and life? Are your treasures in heaven or on this earth? Jesus said that where your treasure is there will your heart be also. Remember, the acceleration of age comes quicker than one may think especially in the latter years of one's life.
