COMFORT ZONE

One definition of comfort zone is the range of circumstances in which a person feels relaxed or able to cope. It is a place where one is comfortable and have no desire to leave it. But it is not good to remain in such a setting when there are other avenues that are God-ordained for us.

An example would be that of Abraham who God told to get out of your country, and from your kindred, and from your father’s house, to a land that I will show you (Genesis 12:1). A startling statement to one who is residing in a comfort zone to have it disturbed. But Abraham, who was 75 years old, departed as God had instructed him and was later to became the father of many nations through His obedience and faithfulness to God.

What Would Separate Us From God?

Often times we become to attached to the very things that would separate us from God and when asked to give them up it becomes an emotional time. Such an occurrence is mentioned in the New Testament: A man came and asked Jesus, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life? Jesus said, to obey the commandments. The man said, I have obeyed all these things from my youth up; what lack I yet? Jesus said, go and sell that you have, and gave to the poor, and you shall have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me. But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful for he had great possessions (Matthew 19:16-22).

Oftentimes one places their position in life on what they possess. What is most valuable is not what we have in our lives, but whom we have in our lives. The young man had much more to gain had he yielded his life over to the Lord and been obedient to Him. Scripture tells us that where your treasure is, there will your heart be also (Matthew 6:21).

What Would Hinder One From Obtaining Eternal Life?

This young man obviously had great wealth and was in a comfort zone that left him entrenched into a deception as to its importance in His life. We live in a world today that is less secure than ever before. Fortunes can be loss over night. One’s only security is in what Jesus had offered to this man. He saw what hindered him in this life from obtaining the richness of the life to come. In this man’s case it was riches; to another it may be something else that would prevent them from having life everlasting with a loving Savior.
