"Freedom in Our Land"

An editorial is often based on expressed opinions. We are living in a time when there are many expressed opinions on any given subject. For one to be objective in their editorial it would necessitate being uninfluenced by emotion, surmise, or personal prejudices which far surpass my own ability since I am very much opinionated on certain issues based on the holy scriptures, the leading of God's Spirit, and my own observations. I strive, through the help of the Lord, to bring a new, and fresh, editorial as given through the inspiration of God's Spirit. An editorial can be as the birth of a child, eagerly awaited by its parents.

Freedom Restricted

Freedom, which has been fought for since the birth of this nation, has been worth the price. It came at a high cost and continues so even at the time of this writing. When you have those who would attempt to suppress one's freedom, by the stroke of a pen, or in a bill in Congress whose pages are so numerous it hides the unforeseen, it could restrict freedoms already established.

I spent some time in a Marine Brig during my career in the service and know what it is like to have freedom curtailed. It was like taking a breath of fresh air when I departed. But it did instill in me a commitment to never again return to that environment and to be restricted in such a manner. I enjoy the freedom I have and know what it is like not to have it.

Freedom Of Speech

There are many places in the world that freedom is curtailed. There are places where one does not have freedom of speech and would face imprisonment or worse for expressing ideals in opposition to present leadership. Thank God that we are still able to express our feelings toward any given situation without fear of reprisal. Thank God that we are not like programmed robots performing as directed without our own feelings or thoughts being a factor.

Basic Freedoms To Be Thankful For

America has taken some nosedives in regards to what the majority of the people desire but we still, at this point, have some basic freedoms that we need to be thankful for. We can still gather together and converse with one another without fear of someone turning us in. A movie called "The Printing" gives a good illustration of how such an environment can exist where believers cling to a hollow shell of Christianity tolerated in "registered" churches. Yes, I thank God for the freedoms in our land that we still have!
