A glorious event, that is affirmed in many Scriptural references, is the resurrection of the dead. To deny the resurrection is to deny the immorality that is promised in God's Word.
The apostle Paul revealed: "If Christ be preached that he rose from the dead, how say some among you that there is no resurrection of the dead?" (1 Corinthians 15:12) Paul was establishing the fact that the resurrection is an essential fact of the gospel. If our hope in Christ does not take us beyond this present life then we are men most miserable (1 Corinthians 15:19).
Many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt (Daniel 12:2). The dead men shall live; together with my dead body shall they arise. The earth shall cast out the dead (Isaiah 26:19). If a man die, shall he live again? Though my skin (or disease) destroy this body, yet I shall see God (Job 19:25-26).
A glorious event awaits the believer! Those of the Christian faith, believers in Christ, celebrate this event on Easter each year with expectation! The resurrection is an integral part of the whole redemptive process. It is a guarantee that life continues after death.
As we have shared the image of the earthy, we shall also share the image of the heavenly. I show you a mystery; we shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed. In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall all be changed (1 Corinthians 16:49-53).
The Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the trumpet of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with the Lord in the air; and so shall we always be with the Lord (1 Thessalonians 4:14-18).
The believer in Christ will experience a glorious event. He will be elevated above the earth, with the earth losing its gravitational hold, to meet the Lord in the air. The grave will not prevent the believer in Christ from participating in that glorious event. The only thing that would prevent one from participating will be unbelief; failure to accept Jesus as one's Lord and Savior.
Jesus said: "I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believes in me, though he may die, yet shall he live" (John 11:25). I am the resurrection is one of Jesus' greatest "I AM" statements signifying His power to give eternal life. He also stated: "The hour is coming, in which all that are in the graves shall hear my voice, and shall come forth; they that have done good, to the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, to the resurrection of condemnation" (John 5:29).
The choice as to which resurrection one will be a partaker of lies with each individual. Scripture reveals that the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord (Romans 6:23). It also reveals that neither is there salvation in any other: for there is no other name under heaven whereby we must be saved (Acts 4:12).
After salvation of the soul comes the glorious event this message is all about: the resurrection of the body, to a glorified body, in Christ. The apostle Paul wrote: O death, where is your sting? O grave where is your victory? Thanks be to God, which gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ (1 Corinthians 15:55-57).
