WORLD OF INIQUITY

INTRODUCTION

A world of iniquity is the absence of moral or spiritual values; immoral behavior, and lack of uprightness.  Many once God-fearing nations have allowed filth and degradation to lap over into their once righteous society.

The pollution of the ungodly have wrapped their long-reaching tentacles of deception to infiltrate a once  moral society.  The impurity of societies moral standards have devastated righteousness and lapped into filth and foul iniquity.

WORLD OF INIQUITY
SCARRED BY SIN

The once moral life of many nations have been scarred by sin.  Acceptability has played into the picture of the immorality of man as one continues to feed on the ungodliness of man; with one's conscience becoming immune to such (1 Timothy 4:2).

There are many electronic devices that have made it possible for a the wrong influence to infiltrate the mind.  The receipt of immoral content has become norm to many.  Once acceptance has been allowed there is a tendency to feed on such filth with little conviction to the contrary.  Flirtation with evil begets evil.

SAVED AND UNSAVED

The apostle Paul described the contrast between the saved and unsaved saying:  "The Day of the Lord comes as a thief in the night.  For when they shall say peace and safety; the sudden destruction come upon them (the unsaved), as labor pains on a pregnant woman with child; and they shall not escape.

But you, the believer in Christ, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief.  You are all the sons of light, and the sons of the day: we are not of the night, nor darkness.  But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for a helmet, the hope of salvation.  For God has not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ" (1 Thessalonians 5:2-10).

The Day of the Lord is a term to describe the period that begins with the Great Tribulation, and includes the second coming of Christ and the millennial kingdom.  Paul said that you, the believer in Christ, in contrast to the wicked, for whom Christ's coming will be an hour of destruction, will not face God's wrath, but will be saved from that hour.

NATIONAL CORRUPTION

The prophet Isaiah spoke of a time of national corruption and suffering because of it, in saying:  "Behold the Lord's hand is not shortened, that it cannot hear: But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear.

None calls for justice, nor any pleads for truth; they trust in vanity, and speak lies; they conceive evil, and bring forth iniquity.  Their feet run to evil, and they make haste to shed innocent blood: their thoughts are thoughts of iniquity; wasting and destruction are in their paths" (Isaiah 58:1-8).

God's hand was not beyond the reach of salvation but their sins separated them from His presence.  They no longer lived according to God's Word; were absence of moral or spiritual values, and abiding in immoral behavior.  So it is with many in the world today who have forsaken the right way and are gone astray allowing themselves to be caught up in a world of iniquity.

WAR AGAINST THE SOUL

The Christian life begins with a total commitment to God.  One is not to be conformed to this world, a world of iniquity, but to resist being poured into the mold of present day thinking, value systems, and the conduct of this world.

Scripture admonishes the believer to be as obedient children, not conforming yourself to former lusts but as he which has called you is holy, so be you holy, in all manner of conduct (1 Peter 1:14-15).  Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which lives and abides forever (1 Peter 1:23).  Abstain from fleshly lusts which war against the soul (1 Peter 1:11).

GOD DEALS WITH UNGODLINESS

America, and other once godly nations, have allowed the world of iniquity to be a part of them.  The Almighty God deals with ungodliness.  His Word tells us:  The wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness (Romans 1:18).

Ungodliness is failure in the religious realm.  Unrighteousness is failure in the moral sphere of injustice toward man.  A world of iniquity is the absence of moral or spiritual values; immoral behavior, and lack of uprightness.  The indulgence of degrading appetites towards such has invaded the lives and hearts of many.

2 Chronicles 7:14 is the answer towards a turnaround of any nation or individual:  "If my people which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land."
