LEAVING GOD OUT OF THE EQUATION

INTRODUCTION

Leaving God out of the equation is a mistake of any society that desires a peaceful solution to many complex problems.  Such was noted by Benjamin Franklin in America's early days when a Constitutional Convention was deadlocked and in bitter controversy.

Benjamin Franklin made the following plea to the delegates:  "I have lived a long time and the longer I live, the more convicting proofs I see of this truth; that God governs in the affairs of men.  We have been assured in the Sacred Writings that 'Except the Lord build the House they labor in vain that build it.'

I firmly believe this; I therefore beg leave to move that henceforth prayers imploring the assistance of Heaven, and its blessing in our deliberations, be held in this Assembly every morning before we proceed in business."

LEAVING GOD OUT OF THE EQUATION
TURMOIL AND UNREST

Benjamin Franklin was pointing the leadership of America in the right direction to seek divine guidance from on High.  Leaving God out was obviously not the answer.

In the world today turmoil and unrest is worldwide and seems to be more pronounced that ever before.  News coverage and modern technology has enhanced such in bringing world affairs to one's door step.  The prophet Daniel foretold of a time when many shall run to and fro and knowledge shall be increased (Daniel 12:4).

He also revealed that those who do wickedly shall be corrupted but the people that do know God shall be strong (Daniel 11:32).  The prophet Isaiah spoke of a national corruption and the reason or it:  "Your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you that he will not hear" (Isaiah 59:2).

Leaving God out of the equation promotes turmoil and unrest.  However, turning to God for leadership would help ease such and bring a peace of mind that previously did not exist.

THE FORCES OF EVIL

As a believer one should never leave God out of the equation but rather place him in the forefront to battle the forces of evil that would attempt to prevail.

Scripture tells the believer to be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might (Ephesians 6:10).  It reveals one is to go forth in the strength of the Lord by proclaiming the truths of His Word.  There are many today who have failed to proclaim the truths of God's Word to its fullness.

The scheme of the ungodly is to attempt to undermine the God's Word (as the serpent in the Garden of Eden); or any who are proclaiming its truths

FACING THE GIANT

At times one may feel like little David facing the giant; who the whole army of Israel had trembled when challenged by him.  However, little David did not leave God out of the equation but rather told this invader of God's territory:

"You come to me with a sword and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to you in the name of the Lord, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defiled.  This day will the Lord deliver you into my hand, and I will smite you" (1 Samuel 17:45-46).

It may have appeared to one observing this scene that all that David had was his sling shot to combat the giant; but in reality David was equipped with a greater weapon; his faith in God, who had already delivered him out of the paw of the lion and the paw of the bear (1 Samuel 17:37).

RENEWED CONFIDENCE IN GOD

Ungodliness has attached itself to America, a nation that has "In God We Trust" inscribed on its coins; those words need to be revived again!  Its "One Nation Under God" concept needs to be revived again!  For one to march forward as little David there needs to be a renewed confidence in God!

America was founded upon godly leadership.  However, by leaving God out of the equation, it has allowed ungodliness to surface and gain a foothold; then increase in its territory.  God's Word admonishes the believer to take the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all to stand (Ephesians 6:13).

God's Word does not encourage one to withdraw because the opposition seems to be prevailing; but to go forth as little David with faith in God.  David never left God out of the equation and God honored his faith, and trust in him, by bringing him victory that day.   For America to be great again; it must return to God for guidance!
