PAGAN WAY OF THINKINGThe pagan way of thinking is very much in the midst of our culture today. A definition of paganism is that of being a follower of a polytheistic religion as in ancient Rome. In the days of Moses, when the people spoke against God, and against Moses, the Lord sent fiery serpents among the people, and they bit the people; and much of the people of Israel died. The people came to Moses, and said, we have sinned; pray to the Lord, that he take away the serpents from us. And the Lord said to Moses, make a fiery serpent, and set it upon a pole: and it shall come to pass, that every one that is bitten, when he looks upon it, he shall live (Numbers 21:5-9). It was a God created deliverance that was later to be turned into idol worship. The bronze snake played a large role in Israel's religious life until the days of King Hezekiah, during which Israel fell back into the ancient pagan way of thinking, and worshiped the bronze snake as the bearer of life. Symbol of Deliverance Turned Into Idol WorshipAt the beginning of the reign of King Hezekiah he removed the places of pagan worship, and brake the sacred pillars, and cut down the wooden images, and brake in pieces the brazen serpent that Moses had made (2 Kings 18:2-4). The brazen serpent had been a symbol of deliverance. However, it had become a source of spiritual confusion and idolatrous worship, therefore it had to be destroyed. Then reform began to take place. Then the worship of the God of creation began to be renewed. Then there was a change in the hearts of the people.We are seeing things happening in our day and age that are no longer the product of God's Word but rather a withdrawing from its intended message. Man has decided that He knows more than God, who created this vast and mighty universe, and is living in accordance to his own desired lifestyle rather than in accordance with God's Word. The truth of God's Word has now become less desirable in many lands. Deliverance Once Again Made AvailableAllow the truth of God's Word to saturate your heart and bring that sweet deliverance that was intended in accordance with God's Word. Deliverance and salvation comes through Jesus Christ (John 3:16/Acts 4:12). |
