A PANDEMIC

The term pandemic refers that which is widespread or universal such as a widespread disease. The last pandemic began in China in 1894 and spread to Africa, the Pacific islands, Australia, and reached San Francisco in 1900. The world seemingly is holding its breath concerning the possibility of another one that has the potential of such a destructive nature or worse.

God's Word speaks of pestilences that would strike mankind (Matthew 24:7). The term pestilence is that of any usually fatal epidemic disease.

Another Definition of Pandemic

Another definition of pandemic is that of a pernicious evil influence, a mover of sedition throughout the world. I believe we are seeing this right in the heart of America, and that of other countries, that is readily identified by allowing flirtation with God's Word.

Daniel Webster revealed that if the power of the Gospel is not felt throughout the length and breadth of the land, anarchy and misrule, degradation and misery, corruption and darkness will reign without mitigation or end. When the people of a nation seeks out there own pleasures rather than seeking the righteousness of God, when it has grown accustomed to unrighteousness, as in the days of Lot (II Peter 2:7-8), I believe that country will bring dishonor to its own birthright and the judgment of God upon its shores.

Have We Forgotten God?

Abraham Lincoln coined these words: We have been the recipients of the choicest bounties of heaven; we have been preserved these many years in peace, and prosperity; we have grown in numbers, wealth, and power as no other nation has ever grown. But we have forgotten God. We have forgotten the gracious hand that preserved us, and we have vainly imagined, in the deceitfulness of our hearts, that all these things were produced by some superior wisdom and virtue of our own. Intoxicated with unbroken success, we have become too self-sufficient to feel the necessity of redeeming and preserving grace, too proud to pray to the God that made us.

I believe that our greatest fear should be that of a nation under God becoming a nation without God. The Statue of Liberty received a new face-lift because of deterioration why should we not likewise, as a nation, seek for a renewal in God? Our greatest hope lies in II Chronicles 7:14 - If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and heal their land.

Are We A Nation That No Longer Fears God?

We live in a land flowing with milk and honey. We have been blessed as no other nation but we are fast becoming a pagan nation that no longer fears God. What has materialized in recent years would have made our forefathers wonder in amazement. An unknown author wrote of the things that will destroy us: politics without principle; pleasure without conscience; wealth without work; knowledge without humanity; and worship without sacrifice.

As I stated earlier, we live in a land flowing with milk and honey; just as the early Israelities, but their honeymoon period ended when they embraced the idols of the land and forsook the God of their creation. If we do not grasp hold of the significance of God's unadulterated Word we could readily fall into such a condition as well. There are those who are attempting to target anything that would reflect Christianity through there antichristian agenda.

Are We Being Alienated from God?

The Apostle Paul instructed one not to walk in the vanity of the mind, having one's understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through ignorance, because of the blindness of the heart: for you have not so learned Christ (Ephesians 4:17-20).

Which are we to fear the most, a pandemic that could destroy the body, or of the one that is able to destroy both soul and body in hell (Matthew 10:28)?
