Sad state of affairs; matters of concern, certainly can play havoc with one's mind. The world is in a turmoil; seeking answers to life's perplexing problems. Sin and degradation is running rampant without a sign of remorse towards the evilness being consumed.
Scripture reveals a time that upon earth there shall be a distress of nations; with perplexity. Men's hearts failing them for fear, and from expectation of things which are coming on the earth (Luke 21:25-26).
Scripture gives a warning: Take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be weighed down with carousing and drunkenness, and cares of this life, so that day come upon you unawares. For as a snare shall it come on all them that dwell on the face of the whole earth (Luke 21:34-36).
A sad state exists when the "ungodly crowd" is being presented in America as normal. We are seeing the ungodliness of man flourish in America as it accepts; rather than rejects, the ungodliness of man which is condemned in God's Word (Romans 1:32).
America's pulpits no longer flame with the righteousness of God, as in its beginning. Unfortunately, many believers in Christ have got caught up in a sad state of affairs as well.
A Sunday school commentary noted: "Where there is no fear of God, no reverence for God, every evil can and will abound. The idea that we humans will be good without God is a deceptive fallacy. When people are devoid of the knowledge and wisdom that come from believing God and having reverence for Him, they become morally corrupt, exceedingly evil, violent and destructive."
The prophet Jeremiah asked: "Were they ashamed when they had committed abomination? They were not at all ashamed, neither could they blush" (Jeremiah 6:15).
Jeremiah attempted to warn the people: "Thus saith the Lord, stand you in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and you shall find rest for your souls. But they said, we will not walk therein" (Jeremiah 6:16).
The old paths included the holiness of God. The word holiness is derived from a Hebrew term meaning: being separate. It is associated with purity and righteousness. It is unfortunate, and a sad state of affairs, that the Old Time Holiness Concept has been rejected by many churches in the Western nations. We now see compromise, and tolerance take place; that limits rather than encourages, God's blessings.
Jeremiah, in speaking the words of the Lord, said: "I set watchmen over you saying, hearken to the sound of the trumpet. But they said, we will not hearken" (Jeremiah 6:17). Despite all that God was attempting to do, through His watchmen sounding the alarm, the people refused to walk in the ways of true righteousness. They followed their own paths which would lead to their destruction.
The Parable of the Vineyard (Isaiah 5:1-7) noted God's provision for His people until rejection, as in the days of Jeremiah, came to the forefront. This parable could readily fit the description of America. In instead of a being a parable of provision; it later became a parable of judgment!
