SEARCHING FOR THE
TRUTH

INTRODUCTION

Searching for the truth has become more difficult in a nation that is increasingly more endeared to the ways of the ungodly.  In America, integrity has become lost in the pursuit of fame and fortune.  In such an environment it has become increasingly more difficult to weed out untruths; as the lie is being camouflaged as the truth.

SEARCHING FOR THE TRUTH
DAY OF DECEIT

In an Old Testament a story is told of Isaac when he was old, and his eyes were dim, so that he could not see, who desired to bless his eldest son Esau.  However, his youngest son Jacob went to great lengths to steal Esau's blessing for his own.  He did so with great cunning and deceit plus a lie instead of the truth.

Isaac was searching for the truth but was outwitted that day.  He yielded to the lie of his younger son.  He allowed his senses of touch, taste, and smell to overrule what he heard.  Isaac thought that the voice he heard belonged to his younger son Jacob; but through deception, his other senses were deceived into believing it was his eldest son Esau; and His blessing went to the unintended.

DESPISING ONE'S BIRTHRIGHT

Esau had also sold his birthright to Jacob for one morsel of meat in a weaken moment.  Scripture reveals that Esau despised his birthright (Genesis 16:34).  The definition of birthright is a right or privilege that one is entitled at birth; an inheritance coming at birth, and personal characteristics that are inherited.

Many today despise the last category of a birthright; the fact that they were born a male or female.  The attempt to change their God given gender, and to begin to live a lie; rather than accept the truth.  Scripture reveals that there are those who have exchanged the truth of God for the lie (Romans 1:25).

ALLOWED TO ACCOMMODATE
THE MIND

It is amazing what is allowed to accommodate the mind; lifestyles that are embraced, which are contrary to God's Word, but discerned as appropriate.  Man having formulated such in his mind fails in searching for the truth because he thinks he has already found it.

Jesus said:  "Continue in my word, and you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free" (John 8:31-32).  Many will not grasp the significance of such because they have chosen to believe a lie.  They have become so wrapped up in their own ungodly lifestyle that they do not want to be freed from its entrapment.

WISE AND FOOLISH WAYS
CONTRASTED

Scripture reveals: There is a way which seems right unto a man; but the end thereof are the ways of death (Proverbs 4:12).  The way which seems right may not always be the best or righteous way.  It may be appealing but becomes as the bait placed in a mouse trap to lure a mouse to its death.

Scripture reveals:  The way of the wicked is an abomination to the Lord: but He loves him that follows after righteousness (Proverbs 15:9).  There are many ways the ungodly seek to enhance acceptability when in reality the Word of God condemns such embracement.  The ungodly seek to trap others; with the right bait, to lure them into their ungodly lifestyle.

Scripture reveals: Righteousness exalts a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people (Proverbs 14:34).  National righteousness and national sin have opposite effects: exaltation versus reproach.  America was founded in adherence to God's Word; and exalted as "One nation under God."  In its latter years it has allowed sin to reign in the land; for the most part unopposed.

SEVEN DEADLY SINS

Scripture reveals seven deadly sins of man that God hates: A proud look, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to evil, a false witness that speaks lies, and he that sows discord among brethren (Proverbs 6:16-19).

Searching for the truth can help change the world for the better; but accepting a lie, or half-truth, can bring forth the condemnation mentioned in God's Word.  The stated sins  give an insight as to what is happening in our modern day culture.  The truth of God's Word can prevent one from falling into the sinful nature of man; if allowed to penetrate into the heart of man.
