Wake up call is to cause one to become awake or conscious as to what is happening. In America we are seeing sobering record breaking occurrences in the form of natural disasters; with enormous loss of property, millions of lives affected; and loss of life.
On the world scene; natural disasters of dynamic proportions; masses of people dying in many Third World nations from hunger; terrorism sprouting its ugly wings in many European nations, and countries not previously targeted; the threat of nuclear holocaust from an irresponsible nation; the slaughter of many innocent victims, including Christians.
September 11, 2001; referred to as 9/11, was an eye opener, a terrorist attack against America that was costly in nearly 3,000 lives. People turned back to God and patriotism arose out of the ashes of 9/11; but as time passed so did the people to their former ways.
Rather than patriotism we are now seeing racism raise its ugly head; along with a divided nation. There are many who have helped stir up flames of hatred. Then the ugliness of sinful lifestyles began to be more dominating; adding additional abominations, prompting the need for a wake up call in America!
The writer of the Book of Hebrews issued a warning; quoting Old Testament prophecy: "Yet once more I shake not the earth only, but also heaven. And this word, yet once more, signifies the removing of those things that are shaken, that those things which cannot be shaken may remain" (Hebrews 12:26-27).
It is the unshakeable faith in the Lord that remains; despite the destructive nature of the world. The author of Book of Hebrews wrote:
"Since we are surrounded about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which does so easily ensnare us, and let us run with perseverance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus as the author and finisher of our faith" (Hebrews 12:1-2).
Genuine faith perseveres to the end; emotional decisions do not. True faith continues to believe the truth of God's Word. The writer of the Book of Hebrews; in reference to things being shaken, wrote: "That we receive a kingdom that cannot be shaken; let us have grace, whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear: for our God is as a consuming fire" (Hebrews 12:28-29).
A wake up call is needful in the adulterous and sinful world we reside in. Man has created His own rebellion towards God in the abominations being committed. Abortion on demand, legalized, with millions of babies murdered in their mother's womb.
Disallowing God's Word by legalizing homosexuality which is condemned in God's Word (Romans 1:26-27); same sex marriage rather than biblical marriage between one man and one woman; the transgender movement which questions one's God-given gender at birth; and many others, that far surpass the abominations committed in Sodom and Gomorrah which were destroyed by God as an example to them that afterward should live ungodly (2 Peter 2:6).
A wake up call is oftentimes comes when one is involved in a situation, and hour of need, when calling upon God is the only answer. There is no shame in that; sometimes it takes such a condition before recognizing God comes into play. God who created them, give them the breath of life, cared for them, sustained them; possibly even without their realizing it!
There came a time in my own life, while in a foreign land; not knowing whether I would live or die, that the God of my youth came to mind. I made three promises; if He would deliver me. Four months later I was to break the first of those promises; and it would be much later (ten years) before I was to keep all three promises.
I thank God, and my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, for amazing grace, extended mercy, and forgiveness! He has been by my side for close to 40 years since yielding my life over to Him! It is with great love that I witness what He can do for anyone who will seek Him out (the Lord Jesus Christ)!
Once I saw a beautiful butterfly caught in the snare of a spider's web. I leaned over and freed it from its entrapment, for the spider had yet to begin its devious work, and the butterfly flew upward "freed" from its entrapment.
It was a beautiful sight to behold, and that is what God wants to see; His people freed from the temptations that so readily ensnare them in our modern day culture. The ugliness of what the spider was going to do; to such a beautiful butterfly, was undone by a moment of kindness.
Such is the beauty of salvation, when one is freed from the ugliness of sin into the beauty of holiness (Romans 6:22-23). It is truly a wake up call towards the salvation of one's soul; when God gets one's attention, and they make a wholehearted commitment to His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ!
