A healthy body is imperative towards sustaining life; whether it be physical or spiritual. In regards to the physical side the Israelites were given an extensive list of clean and unclean animals according to the Law (Leviticus 11). Looking towards the spiritual side was to view the clean animals as living illustrations of how the righteous Israelite was required to behave; while the unclean represented sinful man.
There are studies that reveal man is still consuming what is unhealthy for the body physically speaking. Also, the spiritually man has disallowed the fruitfulness of obedience to God's Word which opens the door for a sin-ridden body.
The unhealthiness of any nation comes into focus; when the door is opened, towards acceptance of unhealthy lifestyles condemned in God's Word. The immorality that has been allowed to openly function; without reproach, is now coming home with hideous results.
In America, and other once godly nations, we are seeing the promotion of an unhealthy attitude; with betrayal of God's Word, rather than upholding its truths. We are seeing many placed in positions of authority who openly proclaim ungodly lifestyles.
The prophet Jeremiah cried out: Were they ashamed when they committed abomination? No, they were not at all ashamed, nether could they blush (Jeremiah 6:15). In America it falls squarely on those electing the ungodly to office; through lack of morals on one's own part, in seeing no wrong in such lifestyles!
The Book of Jude identifies the fact that the Christian faith has a definite, unchanging, and unchangeable nature. However, Jude having in seeing ungodly developments occur felt an urgency to exhort the brethren to continue steadfast in the faith.
He wrote: There are certain men who crept in unnoticed, ungodly men turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness (or a license towards immorality) (Jude 1:4). He identified the unhealthy situation of Sodom and Gomorrah, and the cities about them, giving themselves over to immorality, and going after strange flesh, being set forth as an example, suffering the punishment of eternal fire (Jude 1:7).
He spoke of others who were as spots in your feasts of charity, when they feast with you, feeding themselves without fear: clouds they are without water, carried about of winds; raging waves of the sea, foaming up their own shame; wandering stars, to whom is reserved the blackness of darkness forever (Jude 1:12-13).
Jude encouraged his readers towards a healthy body; spiritually speaking; by keeping themselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of the Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life. He that is able to keep you one from stumbling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy (Jude 1:21 & 24).
There is an acceptability taking place in America; and many of its churches, that does not line up with God's Word. There is an influx of ungodliness evading the land that far surpasses Sodom and Gomorrah, who are often mentioned in Scripture as example of God's severe judgment on sexual sin and in particular sexual perversion.
Jude wrote that immorality had clearly entered the ranks of believers. They had ventured into immorality and they even criticized those who chose not to be part of such unfaithfulness to God's Word. Jude did not mince his words but declared plainly what was transpiring did not line up to a healthy body; spiritually speaking, by attempting to point the way to Christ and to keep one from falling into the ways of the ungodly.
Promoting a healthy body, spiritual speaking, is in a daily consumption of God's Word; living in accordance with that Word, with prayer to promote healthy spiritual relations. As one studies the Word of God they apply its spiritual and literal principles to their life (2 Timothy 2:15).
Scripture reveals that the Word of God is quick (or living), and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart (Hebrews 4:12).
The reason given for one's careful scrutiny of one's own life involves the reality that God is also scrutinizing it (Psalm 33:14). God's Word is alive. It is not inept or inactive; it is powerful! It reaches the inner secrets of man's mind to discern even his thoughts and intents. Scripture reveals: All things are naked and open unto the eyes of him with whom we must give account (Hebrews 4:13).
A healthy body; spiritually speaking, requires the believer to stand steadfast in God's Word. We have a heavenly Father who gives us the victory through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. The believer is to be steadfast, unmovable in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as you know that your labor is not in vain in the Lord (1 Corinthians 15:57-8).
One may have allowed the body to become unhealthy through the intake of unhealthy foods, so readily consumed in our Western culture, but let it not be unhealthy spiritually by partaking of the unhealthy lifestyles promoted by a sin-ridden society.
Hope versus despair is an essential part of a Christian life; not mere expectation or desire but that which includes trust, confidence, and refuge in God.
