Decrease in respectability has came into being due to many who are posed, as a venomous snake, to strike out at any who are in opposition to their way of life.
Respect has deteriorated to the pace of character assassination rather than honoring the position held; even if one cannot agree with that person's agenda. There is a spewing of hatred; a torrent of words and actions that leaves little respect; even towards the one who is displaying such an attitude.
An encyclopedia coined these words: Are all humans owed respect? What about those who lack rationality? Some contend that evildoers warrant no respect; others hold that while they deserve punishment they must still be respected as persons.
There are many types of respect; the well-mannered respect children should show parents and teachers; the great respect one might have for their accomplishments; the just respect people demand for their rights; and the basic respect many believe we own people.
Included in the category of respect is standing for a judge entering a courtroom. This is still recognized today; however, one who would show respect in such a circumstance might fail to stand in recognition of the National Anthem, or another area that warrants respect.
It is unfortunate that one would fail to stand in respect of the National Anthem in order to push their own agenda! Not only is the decrease in respectability more noticeable in these latter years; it is the venomous mannerism being displayed, and advocated, by failure to show proper respect.
America has become a divided nation; politically speaking, with an inner conflict that is nourished by the mainstream and social media, giving little respect, as it lambastes (or attacks verbally). Character assassination comes into play; with little evidence to support the claim, which is becoming more of a norm today.
Oftentimes, one is so hateful towards an individual, or organization, that there is little respect shown. They place their agenda first; as in the case of failure to stand for the National Anthem. There are other avenues of expressing one's views without showing disrespect for one's homeland!
Scripture reveals: Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man sows, that shall he also reap (Galatians 6:7). The decrease of respectability comes with sowing seeds of hatred; the venomous (or spiteful attitude) being displayed by many, who in sowing discord reveal their true nature as well.
Scripture admonishes one to be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath: For the wrath of man does not produce the righteousness of God (James 1:19-20). Sometimes silence and patience are a virtue; talk can inflame anger, and anger inflame talk. Scripture offers a warning and advice: Foolish and ignorant disputes avoid, knowing that they generate strife (2 Timothy 2:23).
Scripture reveals that there are those who walk according to the flesh, in the lust of uncleanness, who are self-willed. They speak evil of the things that they understand not who shall (unless repentance comes into focus) utterly perish in their own corruption.
They entice unstable souls. They have forsaken the right way and are going astray. They speak great swelling words of emptiness. While they promise liberty, they themselves are the servants of corruption (2 Peter 2:10-19). In these latter days; with the God in heaven being forsaken; even by some of His own, the decrease in respectability has become more noticeable as the venomous nature of man is revealed.
Oliver Wendell Homes prayed: Father, send on Earth again peace and goodwill to men; yet, while the weary track of life leads your people through storm and strife, help us to walk therein. Guide us through the perilous path; teach us love that tempers wrath; let the fountain of mercy flow alike for helpless friend or foe, children all of yours.
God of grace, hear our call; bless our gifts, giver of all; the wounded heal, the captive restore, and make us a nation evermore faithful to freedom and you.
One needs to possess the fruit of the Spirit spoken of in God's Word: Love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, faith, meekness, goodness, and temperance. If so doing, one lives in the Spirit (or the Spirit of God) and walks in the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-25).
Having these godly virtues will not bring a decrease in respectability; rather enhance it! Those who possess a venomous (or spiteful attitude) in their demeanor; require the characteristic of love to offset the fleshly desire to retaliate in the wrong manner. (More Details in Audio Podcast)
