INTRODUCTION

Deliver us from evil is enshrouded in the Lord's Prayer (Matthew 6:13). Evil is being amassed against the normality of yesteryear; engulfing nations that are not firmly entrenched in God's Word.

Scripture reveals: In the last days (which we are in) perilous times shall come (2 Timothy 3:1). All that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution. Evil men and seducers shall wax (grow) worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived (2 Timothy 3:12-13).

Harm and Destruction

The term evil is defined as morally objectionable behavior; that which causes harm or destruction; having a disposition to do wrong, exhibiting immoral behavior, and vicious evil conduct.  Similar words are: Injurious, destructive, wicked, sinful, corrupt, and perverse.

Quotes concerning evil: We cannot do evil to others without doing it to ourselves (Joseph Demahis).  Thinking evil is much the same as doing it (Greek proverb).  Evil unchecked grows; evil tolerated poisons (Jawaharial Nehru).  He who accepts evil without protesting against it is really cooperating with it (Henry Thoreau).  

Spin-off of Evil

There is a spin-off of evil that inflames; growing in leaps and bounds, such as Socialism, Marxism, and Communism; Critical Race Theory (CRT), the Great Reset Plan instituted by the World Economic Forum; Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Transformation; population control with rebirth of Nazism's superior race theory; to name but a few, that would upset the normality of life.

Included in the spin-off of evil is a drive to maintain legalized abortion, homosexuality, same sex marriage, and transgenderism as a way of life, through condemned in God's Word.  Any nation entrenched in these areas are in danger of judgment being unleashed; with God withdrawing His umbrella of protection and provision.

Power and Authority

It was noted that God having power and authority to create also has power and authority to destroy that which He creates.  This was shown by the Flood in the days of Noah.  When humans become so evil, that every thought and imagination of the human mind and heart was only evil continually, God decided to destroy from the earth the humans He had created.

To give life and take away life are both within God's authority.  Jesus spoke of a period of time when nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes in divers (various) places (Matthew 24:7).  Then shall they deliver you (the believer in Christ) to be afflicted, ad shall kill you: and you shall be hated of all nations for my name's sake (Matthew 24:9).  In such being birthed in our present day world?

Evilness of Man

Deliver us from evil should be on the lips of every believer as one sees the evilness of man multiplied many times over.  Scripture reveals that God is aware of such:  The Lord looks from heaven; he beholds all the sons of men.  From the place of his habitation he looks upon the inhabitants of the earth.  He fashions their hearts alike (individually), he considers all their works (doings) (Psalm 33:13-15).

The Psalmist states why the prayer "deliver us from evil" will be answered:  The Lord brings that counsel of the heathen (ungodly) to nought: he makes the devices (plans) of the people of no effect (Psalm 33:10).  Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the Lord delivers them out of them all (Psalm 33:19).

Life-giving Liberties

It was noted that if the fires of freedom and civil liberties burn low in other lands, they must be made brighter in our own.  If in other lands, the press and books of literature of all kinds are censored, we must redouble our effort to keep them free.  If in other lands the eternal truths of the past are threatened by intolerance, we must provide a safe place for their continuation (Franklin D. Roosevelt).

Those words should be endeared to the hearts and minds of any nation being threatened of its life-giving liberties fought and died for; to hold fast to a "Nation under God" concept and live out that phrase without compromise.  There is a need for the rebirth of the endeavor made by our forefathers who instituted the "Nation under God" concept; being not only instituted, but upheld and practiced in every aspect of life!

No Fear of God

It was noted that where there is no fear of God, no reverence for God, every evil can and will abound.  The idea that we humans will be good without God is a deceptive fallacy.  When people are devoid of the knowledge and wisdom that come from believing God and having reverence for Him, they become morally corrupt, exceedingly evil, violent and destructive. We are seeing a similarity of the pre-Flood days of Noah being exercised in our present day setting.

Scripture reveals: God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually (all the day). And it repented the Lord that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at the heart (Genesis 6:5-6). 

But Noah (a preacher of righteousness) found grace in the eyes of the Lord (Genesis 6:8).  And God said to Noah, the end of all flesh is come before me: for the earth is filled with violence, through them (mankind), and behold, I will destroy them with the earth (except those in the ark of safety) (Genesis 6:13).

No Sense of Accountability

There are nations today who have withdrawn from God's hand of mercy; allowing the ungodliness of man to reign without shame.  The prophet Jeremiah, in speaking the words of the Lord, said:  Were they ashamed when they had committed abomination? No, they were not at all ashamed, neither could they blush; therefore they shall fall among them that fall: at the time that I (God) visit (punish) them they shall be cast down, saith the Lord (Jeremiah 6:15).  Is there not a need for a "deliver us from evil" cry upon the lips of every believer?  

It was noted that when people conduct their lives as though there is no God; who knows and judges every person, evil can abound.  The most dangerous society is one in which people have no sense of accountability to God, and no fear of God.  Many nations, once under the caring hand of God, have evolved into the heathen (ungodly) status, having forsaken the God of their youth!

Fall of Babylon

Scripture reveals: Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and is become the habitation of devils (demons), and the hold of every foul spirit, and a cage of every unclean and hateful (hated) bird (Revelation 18:2).  Prior to destructive measures being accomplished a plea was made: Come out of her my people, that you not be partakers of her sins, and that you receive not of her plagues: for her sins have reached unto heaven, and God has remembered her iniquities (Revelation 18:4-5).

Then comes the fatal inescapable judgment: Therefore shall her plagues come in one day, death, and mourning, and famine: and she shall be utterly burned with fire: for strong is the Lord God who judges her (Revelation 18:8).  Finding oneself in days similar to the pre-Flood days of Noah, Sodom and Gomorrah, and Babylon, all who came to destruction at the hand of God, should bring "deliver us from evil" upon every believer's lips.

Dwelling Among the
Wicked

Scripture reveals: God spared not the old world (pre-Flood days of Noah), but saved Noah the eighth person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly; and turned the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah into ashes condemning them with an overthrow (destruction), making them an example to those that after (afterward) should live ungodly (2 Peter 2:6).

God delivered just Lot vexed (oppressed) with the filthy conversation (conduct) of the wicked: for that righteous man dwelling among them in seeing and hearing, vexed (tormented) his righteous soul from day to day with their unlawful (ungodly) deeds: the Lord knows how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust to the day of judgment to be punished (2 Peter 2:7-9).  All the more reason for the believer to cry out deliver us from evil!

Takes Not Warning

The prophet Ezekiel noted: Whosoever hears the sound of the trumpet, and takes not warning; if the sword (enemy) come and take him away, his blood shall be upon his own head. He heard the sound of the trumpet, and took not warning; his blood shall be upon him. But he that takes warning shall deliver his soul (save his life) (Ezekiel 33:4-5).

As I live, saith the Lord God, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked; but that the wicked turn from his evil ways; for why will you die (Ezekiel 33:12)?  The Apostle Peter reaffirmed this in saying: The Lord is not slack concerning his promise (punishment of the ungodly) as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that  any should perish, but that all should come to repentance (2 Peter 3:9).

Flames of Divine
Wrath

Consider the fearful danger that you are in: You hang by a slender thread, with the flames of divine wrath flashing about it, and ready every moment to singe it, and burn it asunder.  You have no interest in any mediator, and nothing to hold on to save yourself, nothing to induce God to spare you one moment (Jonathan Edwards).

Those words still ring loud and clear today towards endangered souls who are about to descend into eternity without the benefit of a Savior (the Lord Jesus Christ), unless repentance comes into focus!

Godly Suffering
Persecution

Scripture reveals: All that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution (2 Timothy 3:13).  We are seeing such maximized has surfaced in these latter days.  

Any country grounded in Christian values cannot be overthrown until those roots are cut; to change culture, a long march through the institutions (which stand for godliness) is necessary (Antonio Gramsci).  My object is to devalue God and elevate man (Karl Marx). The presence of such programs are flourishing in many nations with a determination to undermine any godly opposition to their agenda. The phrase "deliver us from evil," found in the Lord's prayer, should be the believer's daily prayer!
