Dwelling in wickedness has become a normality in many once godly nations.  There is an adoption of evil ways that far exceeds the Pre-Flood days of Noah, the Sodom and Gomorrah era, and Babylon spoken of in the Book of Revelation as being the hold of every foul spirit.

Evil is defined as morally objectionable behavior; of being morally wrong in principle or practice; exerting a malignant influence, dwelling in wickedness, and depravity.  There are those who praise all carnal pleasures, fleshly desires, and treat with contempt any of a godly nature.

Dwelling in Wickedness - Calling Evil Good and Good Evil

The prophet Isaiah, in declaring God's message towards evil, cried out:  Woe to them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!

Woe to them that are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight (Isaiah 5:20-21).  Which justify the wicked for reward, and take away the righteousness of the righteous from him!  Therefore as the fire devours the stubble, and the flames consumes the chaff, so shall their root be as rottenness, and their blossom shall go up as dust: because they have cast away the law of the Lord  of hosts, and despised the word of the Holy One of Israel (Isaiah 5:23-24).

Those words do not pamper evil habits of those who choose to flaunt God's Word; but declares destruction toward those who promulgate or participate in such activities.  The apostle Peter proclaimed:  But these, the natural brute beasts, made to be taken and destroyed, speak evil of the things that they understand not; and shall utterly perish in their own corruption (2 Peter 2:12).

Quotes Concerning Evil

Evil often triumphs but never conquers (Joseph Roux).  We cannot do evil to others without doing it to ourselves (Author unknown).  Thinking evil is much the same as doing it (Japanese Proverb).  He who accepts evil without protesting against it is really cooperating with it (Henry David Thoreau).

How many are guilty of this last quotation?  One of the problems of today is those who knowing the truth fail to oppose those who promote evil.  As one remains silent towards man's dwelling wickedness, it will continue to flourish with little opposition.

No Fear of God

A Sunday school commentary noted:  Where there is no fear of God, no reverence for God, every evil can and will abound.  The idea that humans will be good without God is a deceptive fallacy.  When people are devoid of the knowledge and wisdom that come from believing God and having reverence for Him, they become morally corrupt, exceedingly evil, violent and destructive.

A Wrong Choice

Scripture reveals: For a day in your courts is better than a thousand.  I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God, than to dwell in the tents of wickedness (Psalm 84:10).

In the days of Abraham, Lot his nephew knew what it was like dwelling in wickedness, after having chosen the plain of Jordan as his dwelling place; pitching his tent toward Sodom and later moving there.  Scripture reveals:  But the men of Sodom were wicked and sinners (or sinful) before the Lord exceedingly (Genesis 13:13).

Scripture reveals:  Just Lot was vexed (or oppressed) with the filthy conversation (or conduct) of the wicked: for that righteous man dwelling among them, in seeing and hearing, vexed (or tormented) his righteous soul from day to day with their unlawful deeds (2 Peter 2:7-8).  It took the angels of the Lord to deliver Lot, and his family, from Sodom prior to God's raining fire and brimstone from heaven upon it as an example to those who afterward should live ungodly (2 Peter 2:6).

Ability to Give or Take Away Life

A Sunday school commentary noted:  God, having power and authority to create, also has power and authority to destroy that which He creates.  This was shown by the Flood.  When humans become so evil, that every thought and imagination of the human mind and heart was only evil continually.

God decided to destroy from the earth the humans He had created (with the exception of Noah and his family).   To give life and take away life are both within God's authority.   Those words should be a warning to any who fall into the category of dwelling in wickedness.

The Day of the Lord

Scripture reveals:  I (or God) said, I do set my bow (or rainbow) in the cloud, and it shall be for a token (or sign) of a covenant between me and the earth (Genesis 9:13).  And I will remember my covenant, which is between me and you and every living creature of all flesh; and the waters shall no more become a flood to destroy all flesh (Genesis 9:15).  It is sad that man is now utilizing the color of the rainbow as a symbol towards dwelling in wickedness.

But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against (or until) the day of judgment and perdition (or destruction) of ungodly men (or those dwelling in wickedness) (2 Peter 3:7).

But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent  heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.  Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought you to be in all holy conversation (or conduct) and godliness (2 Peter 3:10-11).

Being Led Astray

Scripture reveals that the Lord knows how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust to the day of judgment to be punished (2 Peter 2:9).

Nevertheless we, (the faithful in Christ), according to his promise, look for new heavens, and a new earth, wherein dwells righteousness.  Wherefore, seeing that you look for such things, be diligent that you may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless (2 Peter 3:13-14).

You therefore, seeing you know these things before (or beforehand) beware lest you also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own steadfastness.  But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  To him be glory both now and forever (2 Peter 3:17-18).

Indoctrination of the Wicked

There are many today who would attempt to lead one astray; starting with the youth, who are easy targets, departing from the influence of God's Word.  There are many who would attempt to alleviate such an influence of youths and adults alike.

Many have come to acceptance of dwelling in wickedness, by allowing indoctrination from mainstream and social media, Hollywood, critics of anything that is of a godly nature; with an onrush of ungodly activity, that has become acceptable to the culture of our day.

Scripture reveals that we henceforth be no more children tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight (or trickery) of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive (Ephesians 4:14).  For we wrestle not with flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places (Ephesians 6:12).

Deliverance from the Evils of Mankind

Scripture reveals that evil men and seducers shall wax (or grow) worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived (2 Timothy 3:13).  Many once godly nations have opened their doors to welcome those dwelling in wickedness.  One to abstain from every form of evil; not to entertain it, welcome it, but to reject it.  Scripture reveals: Be not deceived; evil communications (or company) corrupts good manners (or habits).  Awake to righteousness, and sin not; for some have  not the knowledge of God: I speak this to your shame (1 Corinthians 15:33-34).

Dwelling in wickedness opens the door for all kinds of ungodly behavior.  Sin may be appealing, for the moment, but it has been said that it will take one where they never intended to go;  keep one longer than they intended to stay,  and cost one more than they intended to pay.  Sin is costly that separates one from God.

The apostle Paul wrote:  Grace be to you and peace from God the Father, and from our Lord Jesus Christ.  Who gave himself for our sins, that he might deliver us from this present evil world, according to the will of God and our Father (Galatians 1:3-4).  Dwelling in wickedness will not be overlooked; for today is the day of salvation, by rejecting the evilness of our day, and putting on Christ.
