MORALITY WITHOUT GOD

By Roy Burner - Minister of the Gospel

INTRODUCTION

Morality without God has heightened in these latter years with an increase in the unrighteousness of man as one becomes less attentive to God's Word.  The influence of that Word has lessened as man seeks to identify with morality; or lack thereof, in his own ill-conceived ways.

Morality Without God - Leaving Christ Out of the Equation

The apostle Paul who was concerned for Israel in that they were attempting to leave Christ out of the equation concerning the righteousness of God, stated: I bear record (or witness) that they have a zeal of (or for) God, but not according to knowledge.

For they being ignorant of God's righteousness and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves to the righteousness of God.

For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believes (Romans 10:2-4).  Morality without God is a grave error on anyone's part!

Dangers that Confront the Coming Century

I was drawn to the title of this message through a prophecy given by General Booth of the Salvation Army uttered just prior to his death:

I consider the chief dangers that confront this coming century will be Religion without the Holy Ghost (or that of God's Spirit); Christianity without Christ; Forgiveness without regeneration; Morality without God; and Heaven without Hell.

Those who are open to the truth can readily see this prophecy being fulfilled. There is an utter disregard for the fruitfulness of yesteryear; as man allows immorality to blossom forth as a rose, when in reality it is a thorn!

Ignoring God's Word in such terms as Sanctification (being set apart unto God); Righteousness (doing what is right in the sight of God); and Holiness (without which no man shall see the Lord - Hebrews 12:14); is a serious error.  Such terms are being cast aside to make room for acceptance of the previously unacceptable!

Things Which Will Destroy Us

An unknown author wrote of the things which will destroy us:

Politics without principle, pleasure without conscience; wealth without work; knowledge without character; business without morality; science without humanity; and worship without sacrifice.

These are all in evidence today; and if continued, will bring devastation upon any nation!  Morality is the distinction between good and evil; right and wrong; with conformity to moral biblical standards.

The prophet Isaiah foretold of a time when one would call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter.  Woe to them that wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight (Isaiah 5:20-21)!  Which justify the wicked for reward, and take away the righteousness of the righteous from him (Isaiah 5:23).

The Youth of Today

The youth of the land are being taught the immorality of man!  Their minds are being polluted with ungodly inducement; rather than being instilled with righteousness established in God's Word!

The moment that prayer was taken out of public schools; it opened Pandora's box for the evils of mankind to enter in!  With the Unadulterated Word of God no longer being promulgated; the teaching of God's Word bypassed, it opened the door to usher in morality without God.

One man stated:  To give a man full knowledge of true morality, I would send him to no other source than the New Testament!   True morality without God is impossible.  Many have been blinded to the truth; not even realizing the dangerous state they have entered in!

Giving Heed to Deceiving Spirits

Scripture reveals: Now the Spirit speaks expressly, that in the latter days some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing (or deceiving) spirits, and doctrines of devils; speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron (1 Timothy 4:1-2).

Morality without God; is only a suggestive thought, for it cannot truly be.  There are those who are attempting to push aside the morality of God; with one becoming ingrained in the immorality of man.  For once godly nations, to truly become truly great again; they will have to quit attempting to set up their own standards of morality!

Daniel Webster, an American statesman, stated: Our ancestors established their system of government on morality and religious sentiment.  Moral habits, they believed, cannot safely be trusted on any other foundation than religious principle, nor any government be secure which is not supported by moral habits.

Many places in God's Word gives the conditions for a nation to be blessed of God.  First of all one has to adhere to the Word of God; walk in godliness, not allowing infiltration by the ungodly.  Such a stand is presently lacking in many nations; as many continue to walk in the path of the ungodly, enjoying the pleasures of sin, without regard to the eternal condition of the soul!

Morality Without God is Unattainable

Morality without God is unattainable; cleansing of the soul without God is unattainable; it takes a Savior (the Lord Jesus Christ), sent by God, who paid the ultimate sacrifice on the Cross of Calvary, in giving of His own life for the sins of mankind, to cleanse one from all sin (1 John 1:7).

Scripture reveals: If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.  If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:8-9).  Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature (or creation); old things are passed away; all things are become new (2 Corinthians 5:17).

God's Word reveals what takes place on conversion: Set your affection (or mind) on things above, not on things on the earth (Colossians 3:2).  Lie not one to another, seeing that you have put off the old man with his deeds; and have put on the new man, which is renewed in the knowledge after the image of him that created him (Colossians 3:9-10).  And whatsoever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him (Colossians 3:17).

Setting Your Affection on Things Above

A Bible commentary noted: Set your affection on things above include deeper knowledge of Christ, closer fellowship with Him, victory over sin, leaving behind old ways, habits, values, vices, and sins.  One is to seek a deeper knowledge of Christ, closer fellowship with Him, victory over sin, the attainment of Christian maturity, and all the spiritual benefits God has for His people during their days on earth.

Let one be inspired to draw closer to a heavenly Father who loves you; a Savior who bled and died for you!  Allow the saving grace of Jesus Christ, who now sits on the right hand of His Father in heaven, as one's advocate and intercessor, become the vocal point of one's life!
