Powerful influence to deceive exists today as that of the serpent in the Garden of Eden who enticed Eve to partake of the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil.
The serpent made the fruit of the tree inviting; good for food, pleasant to the eyes, and to be desired of, despite God's command to the first inhabitants of the earth not partake of it, nor even touch it; lest they die (Genesis 3:3).
A powerful influence to mislead flourishes in the world today. There are those who stand for the truths of God's Word; attempt to see a return of the godly nature which previously existed, but there is also an onrush of evilness captivating the land as well, that makes such a stance look like little David facing the giant Goliath.
There are many who are bearing the fruit of corruptness; and unless identified, will continue to spread their filth and degradation. There are many being mislead by such activity.
The apostle Paul identified a fellow worker, having forsaken the right way, loving this present world (2 Timothy 4:10). Many today; who once stood for the truths of God's Word, are being misguided towards acceptance of the corruptness of man.
There is a war being waged between the forces of good and evil. There are ungodly traits being put forth that are being readily consumed. A powerful deception is in the offering; due to lack of godly influence.
We are seeing ungodly influences manifested that far exceed Sodom and Gomorrah which God destroyed as an example to those who afterward should live ungodly (2 Peter 2:6). We are seeing unrighteousness being presented to a world; with acceptance becoming the norm.
Scripture tells of Lot who was oppressed with the filthy conduct of the wicked: for that righteous man dwelling among them, in seeing and hearing, tormented his righteous soul from day to day with their unlawful deeds (2 Peter 2:7-8). Lot was so intrigued with some aspect of Sodom that he lingered when destruction was forthcoming. What influence would hold one captive at such a time (2 Timothy 2:26)?
In America there is an influence to mislead in the political arena. It is hard to know who is telling the truth or attempting to deceive. The mainstream media is often bias in their reporting making it difficult in identifying the truth. The social media is an unreliable source. There is division and mistrust, in the political ream, with a lack of coming together for the good of the country.
There is a powerful influence to deceive in the sanctity of life. A Sunday school commentary noted: The loss of regard for the sacredness of human life is a dangerous path to travel. Many today embrace the "culture of death" for convenience; abortion on demand, euthanasia, etc. When human life is not treated as a sacred gift from God; life itself ceases to have any meaning or purpose.
Powerful influence to deceive will always be in the world; as long as ungodly influences remain. However, one does not have to be so captivated that they become enslaved! Scripture reveals that God always gives us victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, be steadfast, unmovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord (1 Corinthians 15:58).
Hope versus despair is an essential part of a Christian life; not mere expectation or desire but that which includes trust, confidence, and refuge in God.
