Reap the whirlwind is a Biblical account of devastation brought forth by God. Times in which we live has opened the door for the fierceness of the wrath of God towards many once godly nations that have drifted away from their former allegiance to God.
There is an influx of ungodliness that has surfaced, in recent years, that openly flaunts God's Word! There is a walking away from the sanctity of life with an attempt to eliminate the unwanted.
Scripture reveals: For they (Samaria) have sown the wind, and they shall reap the whirlwind: it has no stalk: the bud shall yield no meal: if so be it yield, the strangers shall shallow it up (Hosea 8:7).
A Bible commentary noted: They have sown the wind, but will reap a whirlwind. They will be swept away in the judgment of God, and what remains shall fall to the hands of strangers to whom God would deliver them. Reap the whirlwind would be raised up against them like a vehement storm of wind.
Many a nation has tempered with God's long-suffering. Scripture reveals: The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness: but is long-suffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance (2 Peter 3:9).
Unless a nation repents they will experience God's unmeasured wrath which will come as a whirlwind of destruction. Scripture reveals: You plowed wickedness, you have reaped iniquity (lawlessness); you have eaten the fruit of lies: because you did trust in your way, in the multitude of mighty men (Hosea 10:13).
A Bible commentary noted: You contrived it, and took a great deal of pains to commit it; denoting their first sins, from whence all others arose; their idolatry and contempt of God's Word. Eating the fruit of lies is as a sweet morsel bread of deceit, which would not profit them, or what they hoped to gain.
We are seeing a rising, in many lands, of the evilness of man in charting a course of sin. Scripture tells us: The wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold (suppress) the truth in unrighteousness (Romans 1:18). Ungodliness if failure in the religious realm; unrighteousness is failure in the moral sphere or injustice toward man.
For one to reap the whirlwind is making an allowance for ungodliness by walking away from the Unadulterated Word of God! We are seeing a movement towards an acceptance of ungodliness that far surpasses the Pre-flood days of Noah, Sodom and Gomorrah, and Babylon which was the hold of every foul spirit.
Scripture reveals: When your fear (terror) comes as desolation (a storm), and your destruction comes as a whirlwind; when distress and anguish comes upon you (Proverbs 1:27).
A Bible commentary noted: Such will be the calamity that will be the occasion for fear; judgment as that of famine or pestilence, which lays all waste. It shall be as the sword of an enemy without, and famine within.
We are witnessing the potential of war from both within and without. The greater threat is from within; a spiritual battle that is ongoing, a threat that is far greater than enemies from without. We are seeing a crumbling of once held biblical convictions by nations and individuals alike.
Scripture reveals: We wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand in the evil day, and having done all to stand (Ephesians 6:12-13). The armor of God is Truth - Righteousness - Gospel of Peace - Shield of Faith - Helmet of Salvation - and the Sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God!
A Bible commentary noted: The spiritual battle Christians are engaged in exists until the Lord's return: there is no quarter given, no ceasefire, no temporary truce, no cessation of hostilities. From now on till the end there is an all-out war.
Those words ring loud and clear in a reap the whirlwind category; as we see many who have chosen to alter their spiritual course, defecting to the enemy of one's soul, rather than fight the good fight of faith unto the end. There is a never-ending struggle between the soul of man; as opposing forces attempt to undermine the Word of God, to appease certain ungodly lifestyles.
Scripture reveals: As the whirlwind passes, so is the wicked no more: but the righteous is an everlasting foundation (Proverbs 10:25). A Bible commentary noted: The wicked seem in great power and authority, but are no more: As the whirlwind, which digs up the earth, makes a circle and buries itself in it; so the wicked dig a pit for others and fall into it themselves.
The righteous are of a firm and stable foundation; rooted and grounded. Reap the whirlwind will not come to righteous individuals who stand for the truths of God's Word; while the wicked will reap the whirlwind, or that of God's judgment.
Scripture reveals: He that sows to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that sows to the Spirit shall reap life everlasting (Galatians 6:8). The Lord is slow to anger, and great in power, and will not at all acquit the wicked: the Lord has his way in the whirlwind and in the storm (Nahum 1:3).
A Bible commentary noted: The Lord is slow to anger reveals His space for repentance towards all mankind. However, he is able to execute the wrath (reap the whirlwind concept) for He will by no means clear the guilty, or let them go free and unpunished.
Though he moves slowly, as it may seem in the execution of His judgments, yet they shall surely be brought forth, to be fully accomplished. His wrath is compared to a whirlwind, and a storm, which is sometimes suddenly executed upon men.
Is America, and other once godly nations, standing on the threshold of God's imminent wrath, to reap the whirlwind, rather than His continued blessings? As ungodliness continues to overpower with its destructive nature; with the people in the land relishing rather than rejecting such, will they not reap the whirlwind?
Is the profit of the almighty dollar not an allurement towards endorsing ungodly lifestyles? Is the entertainment industry not benefiting from its foul and perverted content, because the people love to have it so?
Has one's conscience been seared towards acceptance as more is placed on the plate of acceptability? If so, will it not lead a nation to reap the whirlwind of God's wrath; after all His efforts to awaken the people have failed?
An encyclopedia noted: The Venus flytrap is a carnivorous plant of subtropical wetlands on the East Coast of the United States in the states of North and South Carolina. It catches its prey, chiefly insects, with a trapping structure formed by the terminal portion of each of the plant's leaves, which are triggered by tiny hairs (called trigger or sensitive hairs) on the leaves inner surfaces.
When an insect or spider craws along its leaves contacting one of those tiny hairs, the trap prepares to close, snapping shut only if another contact occurs with approximately twenty seconds of the first strike. The requirement of redundant triggering in this mechanism serves as a safeguard against wasting energy by trapping objects with no nutritional value, for the plant will only bring digestion after five or more stimuli to ensure it has caught a live victim worthy of consumption.
Can one not equate such to how one is leered into the destructive nature of ungodliness? The enemy of one's soul (Satan) has similar intentions towards the soul of man. Scripture reveals: That they (his victims) may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil (Satan), who are taken captive by him to do his will (2 Timothy 3:26). Satan uses the right bait to allure his victim; patiently awaiting, as the Venus flytrap, to open to all potential victims!
The Apostle Paul wrote to Timothy, a young evangelist: Evil men, and seducers shall wax (grow) worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived (2 Timothy 3:13). But preach the word: be instant (ready) in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.
For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; and they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned into fables (that which is fictitious). But watch you in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of your ministry (2 Timothy 4:2-5).
A Bible dictionary noted: Preaching is the God-ordained means to prevent defection from the truth. Teachers who appeal itching ears tell people what they want to hear, not what they need to hear.
A legendary evangelist of the first Great Awakening, Charles G. Finney stated: Brethren, our preaching will bear its legitimate fruits. If immorality prevails in the land, the fault is ours to a great degree. If there is a decay of conscience, the pulpit is responsible for it. If the church is degenerate and worldly, the pulpit is responsible for it.
If Satan rules in our halls of Justice, the pulpit is responsible for it. If our politics become so corrupt that the very foundations of our government are ready to fall away, the pulpit is responsible for it. Let us not ignore this fact; but let us lay it to heart, and awake to our responsibility in respect to the morals of this nation.
There has been a dereliction of duty in the pulpit, in the Western world, that has placed greater value on worldly enticements than the Word of God. The Apostle Paul wrote: Do I persuade men, or God? Or do I seek to please men? For if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ (Galatians 1:10).
If we, or any other nation reap the whirlwind; instead of the blessings of God, it may very well fall squarely on those ordained to speak the truths of God's Word, under the anointing of His Spirit, for failure to do so!
