REAP THE WHIRLWIND

LISTEN

W R Burner (Minister of the Gospel)

INTRODUCTION

Reap the whirlwind category opens the door for the fierceness and wrath of God toward nations who have drifted away from their former allegiance to God.  There is an influx of ungodliness that has surfaced that is condemned in God's Word but endorsed by such nations; including walking away from the sanctity of life.

Scripture reveals: For they have sown the wind, and they shall reap the whirlwind: it has no stalk, the bud shall yield no meal; if so be it yield, the strangers shall swallow it up (Hosea 8:7).

It was noted that they (in this case Samaria) would be swept away in the judgment of God, and what remained would fall in the hands of strangers to whom God would deliver them. The whirlwind of God's wrath would be raised up against them like a vehement storm of wind.

Reap the Whirlwind
Fruit of Lies

Scripture reveals: You plowed wickedness, you have reaped iniquity (lawlessness); you have eaten the fruit of lies: because you did trust in your way, in the multitude of mighty men (Hosea 10:13).  It was noted that you contrived it, took a great deal of pain to commit it; in their first sins from which all others arose, and with idolatry and contempt of God's Word.

Eating the fruit of lies is as a sweet morsel bread of deceit, which would not profit them, or in what they hoped to gain.  Many a nation has tampered with God's longsuffering; and unless repentance comes, will experience God's unmeasured wrath as a whirlwind of destruction.

Avalanche of Ungodliness

We are seeing an avalanche of ungodliness as man continues to chart the course towards the sinful nature condemned in God's Word. Scripture tells us: The wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and the unrighteousness of men, who hold (suppress) the truth in unrighteousness (Romans 1:18). Ungodliness is failure in the religious realm; unrighteousness is failure in the moral sphere or injustice of man.

For one to reap the whirlwind is making an allowance for such through continued walking away from the Unadulterated (Pure) Word of God.  There is presently a movement towards acceptance of ungodliness that far suprasses the Pre-flood days of Noah, Sodom and Gomorrah, and Babylon which was the hold of every foul spirit.

Distress and Anguish

Scripture reveals: When your fear (terror) comes as desolation (a storm), and your destruction comes as a whirlwind; when distress and anguish comes upon you (Proverbs 1:27).  It was noted that this indicates the calamity that will be an occasion for great fear; through famine and pestilence that would lay all waste.  It shall be as the sword of the enemy from without and famine within.

We are witnessing the potential of war from without and within.  The greater threat is from within; a threat far greater than enemies from without.  We are seeing a crumbling of once held moral values that opens the door to reap the whirlwind of God's wrath.

Wickedness in High
Places

Scripture reveals: Be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles (schemes) of the devil (and opposing evil).  For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

Wherefore take unto you the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand in the evil day (which we are in), and having done all to stand (Ephesians 6:10-13). The armor of God consists of: Truth, Righteousness, Gospel of Peace, Shield of Faith, Helmet of Salvation, and the Sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God!

Wicked and Righteous

Scripture reveals: As the whirlwind passes, so is the wicked no more: but the righteous is an everlasting foundation (Proverbs 10:25). It was noted those who seem to be in power and authority, will one day be no more.

As the whirlwind, which digs up the earth, makes a circle and buries itself in it; so the wicked dig a pit for others and fall into it themselves.  But the righteous are of a firm and stable foundation; rooted and grounded in God's Word.  Reap the whirlwind will not be a factor towards the righteous; while the wicked will reap the whirlwind, or that of God's judgment.

Choosing the Right
Path

Scripture reveals: He that sows to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that sows to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting (Galatians 8:9).  God's Word does not bear out the fact that every living being will be saved; though God made a provision for such.

Scripture reveals: For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son (the Lord Jesus Christ), that whosoever believes in him, should not perish, but have everlasting life (John 3:16).  He that believes the Son has everlasting life; and he that believes not the Son, shall not see life (eternal life through Jesus Christ); but the wrath of God (eternal damnation) abides (remains) on him (John 3:36).

Amply Opportunity for
Repentance

Scripture reveals: The Lord is slow to anger, and great in power, and will not at all acquit the wicked: the Lord has his way in the whirlwind and in the storm, and the clouds are the dust of his feet (Nahum 1:3).  It was noted the Lord is slow to anger gives ample opportunity for repentance.

However, he is able to execute His wrath (reap the whirlwind category), and by no means will clear the guilty, or let them go free and unpunished; though he moves slowly, in the execution of His judgments, but they will (if repentance does not come forth) surely be fully accomplished.

State of Laxity

Reap the whirlwind will have a devastating effect on those who have not the benefit of a Savior. The sinfulness of man has evolved to a state of relaxation in that it is being promoted, to young and old alike, as pleasurable and to be received by all.  Many once godly nations have gone adrift in their laxity towards adhering to the Word of God; availing themselves to reap the whirlwind.

Judah of old, having departed from the worship of God to pagan religious practices suffered such a fate.  Scripture reveals: But I (God) scattered them with a whirlwind among all the nations whom they knew not. Thus the land was desolate after them, that no man passed through nor returned: for they laid the pleasant land desolate (Zechariah 7:14).

Consequences for Walking
Away from God

It was noted that scattering with a whirlwind denotes the fierceness of God's wrath, and the strength of His fury. The land of Judah was destitute of inhabitants, with only a few remaining, after the Jews were carried captive to Babylon. The pleasant land was the land of Canaan, a land flowing with milk and honey; the glory of all lands, for its great fruitfulness.

God's Word reveals the consequences for having walked away from Him, by those who were once firmly entrenched in His Word; then having departed from Him, with a failure to return, thus reaping the whirlwind.  There is a possibility; even probability, of the same happening to once godly nations who have withdrawn from their former stand in God!

Threshold of God's
Imminent Wrath

Many once godly nations are standing on the threshold of God's imminent wrath, reaping the whirlwind category, rather than His continued blessings.  As ungodliness continues to overpower, with its destructive nature, with the people of the land relishing it rather than rejecting it, does it not promote God's judgment?

Is the profit of the almighty dollar not an allurement towards endorsing ungodly lifestyles? Is the entertainment industry not benefiting from its perverted content?  Has the lack of moral conscience not placed such on the plate of acceptability? If so, without repentance, such will reap the whirlwind of God's wrath; after all efforts to awaken the people has failed.

Destructive Trap

It was noted that the Venus flytrap is a carnivorous plant that catches its prey with a trapping structure formed by the terminal portion of each of its leaves.  When its potential victims craws along it leaves, triggering the sensitive hairs, entrapment and devouring takes hold.  Can one not equate such to how one is leered into the destructive trap of ungodliness?

The enemy of one's soul (Satan and His cohorts) has similar intentions towards those caught in His entrapment unawares.  Scripture reveals: That they (His victims) may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil (Satan), who are taken captive by him at (to do) his will (2 Timothy 2:26).  Satan awaits for the trap to be sprung, as the Venus flytrap, and is open to all unaware and potential victims.

Reap the Whirlwind
or the Blessings of God

Apostle Paul revealed to Timothy, a young evangelist: Evil men and seducers shall wax (grow) worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived (2 Timothy 3:13).  Preach the word: be instant (ready) in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine (2 Timothy 4:2).

For the time will come (which we are in) when they will not endure sound doctrine (no longer cling to God's Word); but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned into fables (that which is fictitious). Watch in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of your ministry (2 Timothy 4:3-5).

The Apostle Paul, in speaking to the Galatians, stated: Do I persuade men, or God? Or do I seek to please men? For if I pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ (Galatians 1:10). Whether a nation will reap the whirlwind, or the blessings of God, depends on whether they will adhere to the Unadulterated (Pure) Word of God; or depart from it!
