Replenish the earth, in the sense given in Holy Scriptures, has been undermined in a way that would dwarf the procreation of man, as ordained by God. The ungodliness instituted would preclude such a concept; which was first placed first on Adam and Eve, and later on Noah and his sons, to fill the earth with inhabitants.
God's Word reveals: And God blessed them and God said to them, be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth (Genesis 1:28). He provided the means, through male and female, to increase mankind, and fulfill that which was commanded.
The prophet Isaiah stated: Thus saith the Lord that created the heavens; God himself that formed the earth and made it; he has established it, he created it not in vain, he formed it to be inhabited (Isaiah 45:18).
God would not have created male and female; instituted biblical marriage between one man and one woman, had He not intended such to be the norm to replenish the earth. The normalization of such is now being altered by same sex marriage, homosexuality, and a transgender movement that would preclude any possibility of the procreation of man; were such ungodliness wholeheartedly adopted by man.
Scripture speaks of those who changed the truth of God into a lie (Romans 1:25). That the women did exchange the nature use for that which is against nature: and likewise the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is shameful, and receiving in themselves that penalty of their error which was due (Romans 1:26-27).
Wherefore God gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonor their own bodies between themselves (Romans 1:24). Scripture reveals that God gave them up to all forms of sexual depravity, and its consequences, in that they did not want to retain God in their knowledge (Romans 1:28).
God's Word reveals that many shall follow their destructive ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of (2 Peter 2:2). We are seeing laws and judicial rulings made to accommodate the ungodliness of man. There is an ongoing attempt to teach such a lifestyle to young children through text books that encourage acceptance.
Scripture reveals that God turned the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah (those caught up in such ungodliness) into ashes, condemned them with an overthrow, making them an example to those that afterward should live ungodly (2 Peter 2:6).
Mankind obviously has not learned its lesson; as the rise of such is now being openly proclaimed; by those who have embraced it, with the encouragement of others to follow such a path. There is an attempt to replenish the earth with agenda that disregards God's plan for mankind.
The second command; to replenish the earth, became a necessity because of the wickedness of man upon the earth. Scripture confirms such in saying: God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart were only evil all the day.
But Noah was found grace in the eyes of the Lord. And God said to Noah, the end of all flesh is come before me; for the earth is filled with violence (Genesis 6:5-13). The earth would become depopulated, though the flood God brought upon the earth; only Noah, his wife, his three sons and their wives, would be saved.
Later; after the flood, Scripture reveals that God blessed Noah, and his sons and said to them, be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth (Genesis 9:1).
Replenish is to fill something that has been emptied. The first time such a commandment was given; it was through the coming together of Adam and Eve, as husband and wife, to fill the earth with inhabitants.
Then due to the wickedness of man; and his demise through the great flood upon the earth; it become necessary to repopulate the earth, through Noah; his wife, his sons and their wives, who were in the ark at the time of the devastation.
Sexual depravity in Sodom is noted in God's Word. It is reported that the men of Sodom, both young and old, small and great, sought after two men (actually angels of the Lord) that had entered into the city, asking: Where are the men which came in this night? Bring them out that we may know them (Genesis 19:4-5).
The term know, interpreted in the light of Genesis 4:1, is that of carnal or sexual intent. When offered two virgins instead of the two men; they refused the offer, and attempted to break down the door, until the angels of the Lord smote them with blindness (Genesis 9:11).
The biblical concept of family; marriage of one man and one woman, established by God would have utterly perished under such influence; had it not been dealt with. Yet, in today's society, in many lands, there are those who are entertaining the same sexual depravity; without thought towards its consequences.
God's Word speaks of those who walk after the flesh (or fleshly desires) in the lust of uncleanness; speaking evil of things they understand not; who shall utterly perish in their own corruption; having eyes full of adultery, and that cannot cease from sin (2 Peter 2:10-13).
Today we have the mainstream media; and social media, to help promote the ungodliness of man. Likewise, the Word of God is not being fully promulgated as it once was; leaving room, as in the case of Sodom, for young and old, small and great, to replenish the world with immorality rather than the Word of God.
There was a need in Noah's day; after the flood upon the earth, to repopulate the world with inhabitants. Today there is a great need to replenish the earth (or fill the earth) with the glorious Gospel of Christ, the indwelling of God's Spirit, encouragement to walk uprightly before the Lord (as that of Noah), and not be overtaken by the things of this world.
Scripture tells one not to love the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.
And the world passes away, and the lust thereof: but he that does the will of God abides forever (1 John 2:15-17). That there is a way which seems right unto a man; but the end thereof are the ways of death (Proverbs 14:12). The way which seems right may not be the best or righteous way.
