REPLENISH THE EARTH

By Roy Burner - Minister of the Gospel

INTRODUCTION

Replenish the earth, in the sense given in Holy Scriptures, has been undermined in a way that would dwarf the procreation of man, as ordained by God.  The ungodliness instituted would preclude the replenish the earth concept; which was placed first on Adam and Eve, then later on Noah and his sons, and their wives, to fill the earth with inhabitants.

Scripture reveals: So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.  And God blessed them and said to them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish (or fill) the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moves (or moves about) upon the earth (Genesis 1:27-28).  God provided the means, through male and female, to replenish the earth and fulfill that which was commanded.

Replenish the Earth - Normalization of Such a Plan

Scripture reveals: For thus saith the Lord that created the heavens; God himself that formed the earth and made it; he has established it, he created it not in vain (to be empty or a waste), he formed it to be inhabited: saying, I am the Lord; and there is none else (Isaiah 45:18).

God would not have created male and female; instituted biblical marriage between one man and one woman, had He not intended to replenish the earth in such a manner.  The normalization of such is now being altered by same sex marriage, homosexuality, and a transgender movement that would preclude any possibility of the procreation of man; were such wholeheartedly adopted by man.

Changing the Truth of God into a Lie

Scripture speaks of those who changed the truth of God into a lie. For this cause God gave them up to vile affections: for even their women did change (or exchange) the natural use into (or for) that which is against nature: and likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly (or shameful), and receiving in themselves that recompense (or penalty) of their error which was meet (or due).

And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate (or debased) mind, to do those things which are not convenient (or fitting) (Romans 1:26-28).

Way of Truth Shall be Evil Spoken Of

Scripture reveals: Many shall follow their pernicious (or destructive) ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of (2 Peter 2:2).  We are seeing laws and judicial rulings made to accommodate the ungodliness of man.  There is an ongoing attempt to teach such a lifestyle; even to young children, through text books and other means, that encourages acceptance.

Scripture reveals that God turned the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah (which had been caught up in the same sexual perversion) into ashes, condemned them with an overthrow (or destruction), making them an example to those that after ( or afterward)  should live ungodly (2 Peter 2:6).

Mankind obviously has not learned his lesson; as the rise of such is now being openly and proudly flaunted; by those who embrace it, as an encouragement toward others to accept their ungodly path.

Wickedness of Man

The second command to replenish the earth became a necessity because of the wickedness of man upon the earth.  Scripture reveals:  And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination (or intent) of the thoughts of his heart were only evil continually (or all the day).  And it repented (or the Lord was sorry) that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart (Genesis 6:5-6).

But Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord (Genesis 6:8).  And God said to Noah, the end of all flesh is come before me; for the earth is filled with violence through them: and, behold, I will destroy them with the earth (Genesis 6:13).  The earth would have become depopulated, though the flood God brought upon the earth, had not Noah, his wife, his three sons and their wives been saved.

Scripture reveals that after the Flood, God blessed Noah, and his sons and said to them:  Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish (or fill) the earth (Genesis 9:1).

 Sexual Depravity Coming into Focus

As previously mentioned, the sexual depravity of Sodom is noted in God's Word.  Scripture reveals: The men of the city, even the men of Sodom, compassed (or surrounded) the house round, both old and young, all the people from every quarter: And they called to Lot, and said to him, Where are the men which came to you this night? Bring them out to us, that we may know them (Genesis 19:4-5).

The term "know" in this text in in a carnal or sexual way.  When offered two virgins instead of the two men; they refused the offer, and attempted to break down the door seeking the men, until the angels of the Lord smote them with blindness.

Again, the biblical concept of family; marriage of one man and one woman, would have utterly perished under such an influence; had it not been dealt with!  Yet, in today's society, in many lands, there are those who are entertaining the same sexual depravity; without any thought towards its consequences.

Attempt to Replenish the World with Immorality

Scripture reveals:  But these, as natural brute beasts, made to be taken (or caught) and destroyed, speak evil of the things they understand not; who shall utterly perish in their own corruption (2 Peter 2:12).

Today the mainstream and social media; the internet, television and movie industry, and many others, help promote the ungodliness of man.  Likewise, with the Word of God not being fully promulgated as it once was; it leaves room to replenish the world with immorality rather than the Word of God.

A Need to Replenish the Earth

There was a need in Noah's day; after the flood upon the earth, to replenish (or fill) the earth with inhabitants.  Today, there is a continual need to replenish the earth with the glorious Gospel of Christ, the indwelling of God's Spirit, encouragement to walk uprightly before the Lord (as that of Noah), and not be overtaken by the things of this world.

Scripture reveals: Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world.  If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.  For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.

And the world passes away, and the lust thereof: but he that does the will of God abides forever (1 John 2:15-17).  There is a way which seems right unto a man; but the end thereof are the ways of death (Proverbs 14:12).  The way which seems right may not be the best or righteous way!
