WAKE UP CALL

By Roy Burner - Minister of the Gospel

INTRODUCTION

Wake up call is to cause one to become awake or conscious as to what is happening.  Many nations are seeing sobering record breaking occurrences in the form of natural disasters; with enormous loss of property, millions of lives affected; and loss of life.

On the world scene; natural disasters of dynamic proportions; masses of people dying in many Third World nations from hunger, terrorism sprouting its ugly wings, with the slaughter of many innocent,  including Christians.  (Comment)

WAKE UP CALL
AN EYE OPENER

September 11, 2001; referred to as 9/11, was an eye opener, a terrorist attack against America that cost nearly 3,000 lives.   People turned back to God and patriotism arose out of the ashes of 9/11; but as time passed so did the people return to their former ways!

Rather than patriotism racism raised its ugly head; along with being a divided nation, with many who have helped stir up flames of hatred.  The ugliness of sinful lifestyles become more dominating; prompting the need for a wake up call!

A GREAT SHAKING

The writer of the Book of Hebrews issues a wake up call: Yet once more I shake not the earth only, but also heaven.  And this word, yet once more, signifies the removing of those things that are shaken, that those things which cannot be shaken may remain (Hebrews 12:26-27).

It is the unshakeable faith in the Lord that remains; despite the destructive nature of the world.  The author of Book of Hebrews wrote:

Since we are surrounded about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which does so easily ensnare us, and let us run with perseverance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus as the author and finisher of our faith (Hebrews 12:1-2).

Genuine faith perseveres to the end; emotional decisions do not.  True faith continues to believe the truths of God's Word.  The writer of the Book of Hebrews wrote:  That we receive a kingdom that cannot be shaken; let us have grace, whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear; for our God is as a consuming fire (Hebrews 12:28-29).

ABOMINATIONS BEING COMMITTED

A Wake up call is needed in the adulterous and sinful world we reside in.  Man has created His own rebellion towards God.  One example being abortion legalized; with more than 60 million babies being murdered in the womb since that ill-fated decision in1972.

Other examples:  The disallowing of God's Word by openly promoting homosexuality; which is condemned in God's Word (Romans 1:26-27); same sex marriage rather than biblical marriage between one man and one woman; the transgender movement which questions a God-given gender at birth.  We have far surpassed the abominations committed in Sodom and Gomorrah which were destroyed by God as an example to them that afterward should live ungodly (2 Peter 2:6).

HOUR OF NEED

A wake up call comes when one is involved in a situation  that calling upon God is the only answer.  There is no shame in that; sometimes it takes such a recognition, before God is allowed to enter into the picture.

There came a time in my own life, while in a foreign land, not knowing whether I would live or die that the God of my youth came to mind.  I made three promises if He would deliver me.  Four months later I was to break the first of those promises and it would be much later before I was to keep all three promises.

I thank God, and my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ,  that through His grace, I was extended mercy and forgiveness!  He has been by my side for 40 years since yielding my life over to Him!  It is with great love that I witness to the fact that He can do the same for anyone who will seek Him out!

CAUGHT IN A SNARE
BUT FREED

Once I saw a beautiful butterfly caught in the snare of a spider's web.  I freed it from its entrapment; for the spider had yet to begin its devious work, and the butterfly flew upward "freed" from such an entrapment.

It was a beautiful sight to behold, and that is what God wants to see; His people freed from the temptations that so readily ensnare them in our modern day culture.  The ugliness of what the spider was going to do; to such a beautiful butterfly, was undone by a moment of kindness.

Such is the beauty of salvation, when one listens to the wake up call and is freed from the ugliness of sin into the beauty of holiness (Romans 6:22-23).  It is truly a call towards the salvation of one's soul; when God, through His Spirit, gets one's attention, and they make a wholehearted commitment to His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ!
