JESUS IS THE HEALER

Jesus-is-a-Healer

INTRODUCTION

Jesus is the healer not only of a physical nature but more importantly spiritual to those who have gone astray from the path of righteousness.  I thank God when I see a nation that once reverenced God; having withdrawn and allowing ungodliness to reign, through anointed messengers of the Lord, being renewed in their former commitment to God.

A promise was given to King Solomon, regarding the people of Israel, is applicable to all who will call on the Lord in repentance: If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn away from their wicked ways; then will I (God) hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land (2 Chronicles 7:14).  Jesus is the healer, in these latter days, to those who have a listening ear and will adhere a call of repentance.

Jesus is the Healer
Deliverance Promised

Apostle Luke reported on Jesus’ coming to Nazareth (Luke 4:16-18) where he had been brought up; and as was his custom, went to the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and stood up to read.  When he had opened the book (scroll), he found the place where it was written (Isaiah 61:1-2): The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because He has anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he has sent me to heal the broken-hearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised (oppressed); to preach the acceptable year of the Lord.

Jesus said: This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears (hearing) (Luke 4:21).  Jesus is the healer, as prophesied by the Prophet Isaiah, but was rejected by those in attendance who could not see Him other than being the carpenter Joseph’s son; due to unbelief they would not benefit from what was prophesied.

Healing Revealed

Jesus is the healer was verified many times throughout the New Testament. In the Gospel of Matthew it was reported when evening come, they brought to him many that were possessed with devils (demons); and he (Jesus) cast out the spirits with his word, and healed all that were sick (Matthew 8:16).  In the Gospel of Luke: The whole multitude sought to touch him (Jesus); for there went virtue (power) out of him and healed them all (Luke 6:19).

In the Gospel of John: There were many other things which Jesus did which, if they should be written every one (one by one), I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written (John 21:25).  In sending out His twelve disciples Jesus instructed, and empowered them, to heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, and cast out devils (demons) (Matthew 10:8); later others were empowered through His name to accomplish miraculous healings.

Spiritual Gifts
Gift of Healing

Jesus is the healer; and through His name the gift of healing is mentioned by Apostle Paul in reference to spiritual gifts imparted, he wrote: The manifestation of the Spirit (Holy Spirit) is given to every man to profit withal (all).  For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit; to another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healings by the same Spirit (1 Corinthians 12:7-9).

It was noted that the gift of healing does not produce divine healers but divine healing.  Apostle James wrote: Is any sick among you? Let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord (James 5:14).  Jesus is the healer; whenever accomplished, it is through the name of Jesus.

Heal the Broken-Hearted

What-is-the-Cost

Jesus is the healer of the broken-hearted.  It was noted such are in great pain and distress, and even inconsolable, ready to faint and die; Christ was sent to heal such persons.  Isaiah reported: He (Jesus) was wounded (pierced) for our transgressions (sins), he be bruised (crushed) for our iniquities (evil); the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes (blows He received) we are healed (made whole) (Isaiah 53:5).

Apostle Peter wrote: Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree (cross), that we, being dead in sins, should live unto righteousness; by whose stripes (wounds) we were healed (1 Peter 2:24).

Jesus is the healer is stressed in both of these Scriptures; without His atoning shedding of blood there would be no remission of sins, or the stripes he bore for our healing (spiritual and physical) to make us whole and complete in Him.  Thank the Lord for His love and devotion that day at Calvary willing to sacrifice Himself for our well-being.

Deliverance of the Captive

Jesus is the healer and as such seeks to set the captive free. Apostle Paul wrote of those in captivity, taken captive by him (Satan) to do his will.  We (the believer) are to instruct those that oppose themselves (in opposition); if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledgment of the truth (2 Timothy 3:25-26). There are many today held in bondage and captivity; some without realizing it, others who cannot, in themselves, be freed from its embrace.

King David found himself in a similar condition, and cried out to the Lord, then testified: He brought me out of the horrible pit (distress), out of the miry clay (that which was attempting to hold him there), and set my feet upon a rock (solid foundation), and established my goings (ways).  He has put a new song in my mouth, even praise to our God (Psalm 40:1-3).

Deliverance from sin (captivity to it) was also noted by Apostle Paul, in writing: The wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord; being made free from sin, we become servants (dedicated) to God, having our fruit (life) unto holiness and the end everlasting life (Romans 6:22-23).

Recovering of Sight

Jesus is the healer to many who were physical blind without sight, but also to those blinded by sin, ignorant of its devices, and insensible to their state.  Jesus opens the prison doors to such blindness, sets one free from its devastating effect, and gives spiritual sight.

It has been said that sin will do three things in your life:  It will take you where we you intended to go; it will keep you longer than you intended to stay; and it will cost you more than you intended to pay.  Sin is costly business that separates people from God; genuine repentance, through Jesus, brings forgiveness and restoration with God.

Set at Liberty

Salvation-of-the-Soul

Jesus is the healer in that He sets at liberty them that are bruised (oppressed).  I witness a monarch butterfly that had been caught in the snare of a spider’s web; leaned over and freed it from its entrapment, for the spider had not yet began its work, and it flew up “freed!” It was a beautiful sight to behold, and that is what God wants to see in His people, freed from the temptations that so readily ensnare them in our modern day culture.

God gave us His best in providing His only begotten Son (Jesus), as an atonement for our sins, which frees us, from the sinful life, and freedom from such when He becomes our Lord and Savior.  The ugliness of what the spider was going to do to such a beautiful butterfly was undone by a moment of kindness and such is the beauty of salvation. Jesus is the healer that covers every aspect of life here on earth towards a heavenly gain.

Preach Acceptable Year

The last of the message Jesus read in the synagogue in Nazareth (quoting Isaiah 61:1-2) was to preach the acceptable year of the Lord. Apostle Paul wrote: Whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved (Romans 10:13). Paul told Timothy, a young evangelist: I charge you before God and the Lord Jesus Christ; preach the word; be instant (ready) in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all long-suffering and doctrine (2 Timothy 4:1-2).

As we see the day of the Lord rapidly approaching it is of even more importance to preach the Word, let people know that Jesus is the healer, sets on the right hand of God as our intercessor, the provider of peace of heart and soul.  Jesus said: Peace I leave with you, my peace I give to you; not as the world gives, give I to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid (John 14:27).

Salvation

Jesus’ first coming was that of a Savior (John 3:16); His second coming will be destruction of the ungodly (2 Peter 3:9-10). Today is the day of salvation; tomorrow may be too late. Jesus is the healer (physical and spiritually) and is available to every living soul.

Jesus in speaking to a wayward church, extended an invitation: I stand at the door and knock; if any man hear my voice (invitation), and open the door (of one’s heart), I will (a promise) come in to him, and will sup (dine or fellowship) with him and he with me (Revelation 3:20).  Jesus is the healer and deliverer and that invitation could readily apply to any who have not accepted Him as Lord and Savior.
