IMMORAL SOCIETY
OF TODAY

Immoral-Society-of-Today

Immoral society of today is encouraged through acceptance of the previously unacceptable which oftentimes appears more pleasurable than the former.  There is a pattern being set forth as in the pre-Flood days of Noah, Sodom and Gomorrah, and Babylon the hold of every foul spirit; all of which God dealt with.

It was noted that immoral means violating moral principles or being contrary to accepted standards of right and wrong behavior; it describes something that is wicked, evil, unjust, or depraved, often implying a deliberate choice to do wrong despite knowing better, unlike amoral, which means lacking any morals altogether; with an immoral or unrestrained lifestyle.

Immoral Society of Today
Absorbing Immoral Thoughts

The Prophet Jeremiah cried out: O Jerusalem, wash your heart from wickedness, that you may be saved, How long shall your vain (wicked) thoughts lodge with you (Jeremiah 4:14)?  It was noted that such thinking today can arise from many sources: absorbing immoral movies and television; carelessly surfing the Internet; listening to malicious talk; ignoring the Word of God; giving into a materialistic worldview.  Will we allow the sanctifying Scriptures and the purifying blood of Christ to cleanse our heart and mind or will we persist in sin-filled thinking and experience God's judgment?

The immoral society of today still retains its ongoing efforts, of a sinful world, to normalize all ungodly sexual activity identified by the Bible as immoral.  Nevertheless, Biblical standards of sexual morality are given by God, toward our well-being. There has been an avalanche of ungodliness in recent years displayed as pleasing and acceptable.

Thank God for those who will stand, as Moses who chose to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season (Hebrews 11:25).  Apostle Paul revealed: All that will be godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution; for evil men and seducers (imposters) shall wax (grow) worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived (2 Timothy 3:12-13).

A Permissive Day

The immoral society of today is being kept afloat rather than condemned.  It was noted that we are living in a very permissive day when the religious world is so tolerant to most any and all kinds of standards and lifestyles. This permissiveness and tolerance is the result of a self-willed and carnal minded society.

As a result of such tolerance and permissiveness, there are many churches, and even denominations, which have altered their teachings, their standards, and even their interpretations of the Scriptures to please, to comply with and accommodate this permissive and tolerant society.

Very few people this day hold to their heart’s convictions; they change to blend in with their environment. Those words are kept alive, breathing in acceptability, rather than being condemned as God’s Word dedicates.

Gentle Rebuke

The immoral society of today continues to be fostered when a gentle rebuke rather than a firm stand.  Scripture reveals such a time in the days of Eli the priest:  Eli was very old, and heard all that his sons did to all Israel; and how they lay with the women that assembled at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation.  He said to them, why do you such things? I hear of your evil dealings. My sons; it is no good report, that I hear; that you make the Lord’s people to transgress (sin) (1 Samuel 2:22-24).

Scripture reveals: They hearkened not to the voice of their father.  A man of God was send to Eli, speaking the words of the Lord: Honor your sons above me (1 Samuel 2:29)?  Eli’s weak stand was costly both to Eli, and that of his sons, as the man of God revealing to Eli: Your sons in one day will die both of them, and that you will be replaced by a faithful priest (1 Samuel 2:34-35).

The fostering of an immoral society of today is further enhanced by those who refuse to take a stand for God’s Unadulterated (Pure) Word. Jesus spoke to the church of Laodicea which had become lukewarm in its commitment, in saying: Because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spew (vomit) you out of my mouth (Revelation 3:16); He then offered a chance for repentance (Revelation 3:20).

Pulpit is Responsible

Righteous-Exalts-a-Nation

A legendary evangelist of the First Great Awakening, Charles G. Finney, noted that preaching will bear its legitimate fruits; if immorality prevails in the land the fault is ours to a great degree.  If there is a decay of conscience the pulpit is responsible for it. If the church is degenerate and worldly the pulpit is responsible for it. If our politics become so corrupt that the very foundations of our government are ready to fall away the pulpit is responsible for it. Let us not ignore this fact; but let us lay it to heart, and awake to our responsibility in respect to the morals of this nation.

The immoral society of today would have less impact had things continued as recorded by a famous 19th century French statesman, and historian, who traveled to America (could be any other nation) to discover the reasons for its incredible success. He wrote: Not until I went into the churches and heard her pulpits flame with righteousness did I understand the secret of her genius and power.  Words of the past often are just as meaningful, or more so, as when originally spoken to enlightened one towards the truth.

Cleansing Effect of God's
Word

The immoral society of today requires the cleansing effect of God’s Word to be forthcoming as in the past.  A man of God was asked: If given an hour to explain the Gospel to someone, how would he do so? He said he would spend the first fifty minutes on the bad news of judgment and then the last ten minutes on the good news of salvation, because without the context of judgment one would not appreciate or even understand salvation.

Apostle Paul did just that in speaking to the church at Corinth:  Know you not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived; neither fornicators (sexually immoral), nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate (homosexuals), nor abusers of themselves with mankind (sodomites), nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God (1 Corinthians 6:9-10).

Apostle Paul laid it on the line; allowing the cleansing effect of God’s Word to take root, with God’s Spirit bringing the much needed conviction; with Apostle Paul being able to state: Such were some of you; but you are washed (cleansed from sin), but you are sanctified (set apart), but you are justified (declared righteous) in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God (1 Corinthians 6:11). Thank God for every soul that has made that commitment and received a new life in Christ for having done so.

Nineveh Type Repentance

God's Word offers a Nineveh type repentance:  If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land (2 Chronicles 7:14). This call for repentance was originally given to King Solomon regarding the people of Israel, but is applicable to all who will call on the Lord in repentance and faith.  It is a high expression of God's readiness to hear the prayers of a repentant people.

It was noted that all the requirements, of the above Scripture, were met by the people of Nineveh; beginning with its leadership.  No one was cynical or rebellious; which would have precluded God's mercy being extended, all were of a repentant spirit.

The immoral society of today requires such repentance. God’s Word expresses how such an individual is to be approached: In meekness instructing (correcting) those that oppose themselves (come to their senses); if God peradventure will give them repentance (forgiveness) to (so they may know) the acknowledgement of the truth (2 Timothy 2:25).

Morality Rooted in Love

Salvation-of-the-Soul

Jesus taught that morality is rooted in love for God and neighbor. He emphasized that true morality stems from the heart, not just outward actions, and requires a radical commitment to avoid sin, acting with compassion, and treating others as you wish to be treated. The immoral society of today it is far from keeping such a status or even acknowledging the need to do so.

Jesus said: Therefore all things, whatsoever you would that men should do to you, do you even so the them (Matthew 7:12), known as the Golden Rule, means you should treat others the way you want to be treated by them. It's a call to imagine yourself in another’s shoes and act with their best interest at heart, fostering a compassionate, respectful way of life and building harmonious relationships.

When Jesus was asked: Which is the great commandment in the law; He responded with: You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.  This is the first and great commandment, and the second is like it, you shall love your neighbor as yourself (Matthew 22:37-38). If these commandments, and the Golden Rule, were kept there would not even be a need to expound on the immoral society of today for it would have ceased to exist.

Controlling Influence

It was noted: I must try to live in a society and yet remain untouched by its pitfalls (Mahatma Gandhi).  Such is a difficult task without the saving grace of Jesus Christ coming into focus.

Scripture reveals salvation of the soul and eternal gain by the fact that God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten (one of a kind) Son, that whosoever believes in him should not perish, but have everlasting life (John 3:16). Apostle Paul wrote: Whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord (Jesus Christ) shall be saved (Romans 10:13).  Neither is there salvation in any other; for there is no other name under Heaven whereby we must be saved (Acts 4:12).
