W R Burner (Minister of the Gospel)
Inhumanity of man has increased in these latter days as iniquity (lawlessness) abounds with little caring towards one's fellowman. Scripture reveals some of the traits of such times:
Men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous (money lovers), boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy. Without natural affection, trucebreakers (irreconcilable), false accusers (slanders) incontinent (without self-control), fierce (brutal), despisers of those that are good (2 Timothy 3:2-3).
One man noted: If Christianity prevailed, wars would cease, unhappiness would cease, economic problems would be solved, poverty would be wiped from the face of the earth, and man's inhumanity to man would be transmitted into a spirit of mutual helpfulness (Ernest Holmes).
Another stated: The inhumanity of man has been done more by man himself than any other of nature's causes (Samuel von Pufendorf). We are seeing the inhumanity of man inflated as man eases into the last days setting spoken of in God's Word.
Characteristics of the last days include: Traitors, heady (reckless), high-minded (haughty), lovers of pleasures more (rather than) lovers of God; having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof; from such turn away (2 Timothy 3:4-5).
Inhumanity of man has these features imbedded; not the Word of God, which tells one to turn away from such, to not allow the characteristics of the last days to entertain one's mind, actions, or habits. There is an abundance of ungodliness being allowed to pollute the mind rather than the Unadulterated (Pure) Word of God.
Inhumanity defined as being inhuman or inhumane; barbarity in nature; lacking compassion or consideration for others; disposed to give pain to others; willing or pleased to hurt, torment, or afflict; disallowing any since of pity; being savage, inhuman, hard-hearted, and merciless.
One man noted: Man's inhumanity of man makes countless thousands mourn (Robert Burns). Many cry out at the injustices of today while not fully comprehending what they themselves are committing. Scripture reveals: Why behold you the mote (speck) that is in your brother's eye, but consider not the beam (plank) that is in your own eye (Matthew 7:3).
We see policies instituted that would destroy a nation, such as socialism, marxism, and communism, with many being blinded to its destructive nature; rather relishing in the seemingly temporal benefits from its implementation.
Many cry out at injustices being committed by twisted perverted minds; while others allow it to be deemed acceptable by our society. When one opposes the destructive policies of our day they become as David facing the giant Goliath.
However, the story of David and Goliath is in David's response to the challenge: You come to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defiled (1 Samuel 17:45).
When a Christian nation begins to knuckle down to ungodliness; it fails to recognize the weapons that God has provided to keep it afloat. Scripture reveals: The weapons of our warfare are not carnal (of the flesh), but mighty through God to the pulling (tearing) down of strongholds; casting down imaginations (arguments), and every high thing (ungodliness) that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity (control) every thought to the obedience of Christ (2 Corinthians 10:4-5).
The inroad to restoration, as a Christian nation, is to turn to God. Scripture reveals: If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land (2 Chronicles 7:14).
Noah H. Mack, in a sermon titled "Little Foxes" noted: This writer with much interest and prayer observed the movements and efforts of the church for more than thirty-five years; all this while it has developed a great power to work, but almost as fast as she grows in efficiency for labor she drifts into worldliness in one way or another and all because of fostered pride and love of pleasure.
Those who have been responsible for the housekeeping in the church has not been watchful enough and let the little foxes creep into the vineyard and now they are so numerous and big that they cannot be driven out by ordinary means of teaching and warning, for they well-nigh have possession of the vineyard.
A legendary evangelist of the First Great Awakening, Charles G. Finney stated: Brethren, our preaching will bear its legitimate fruits. If immorality prevails in the land, the fault is ours to a great degree. If there is a decay of conscience, the pulpit is responsible for it. If the church is degenerate and worldly, the pulpit is responsible for it.
If Satan rules in our halls of Justice, the pulpit is responsible for it. If our politics become so corrupt that the very foundations of our government are ready to fall away, the pulpit is responsible for it. Let us not ignore this fact; but let us lay it to heart, and awake to our responsibility in respect to the morals of this nation.
Inhumanity of man has ripened as many nations suffer the fate of such; with a few individuals seeking to dominate and control, for their own profit or domination of power. There is little caring as to the fate of those who fall under their clutches; or the cruelty of their policies, that take away basic freedoms.
There is an increase of ungodly leadership that seeks to satisfy a desire to dominate rather than what is good for the people. There is a socialist agenda that seems to promote the well-being of the people, while in reality it is to dominate and control.
Man's inability to identify such has increased its growth rather than diminish its influence. Tolerance and acceptability has not only infiltrated the masses; but the church as well, in many lands.
The inhumanity of man is noticed by the all-seeing eye of God. Scripture reveals: The Lord looks from heaven; he beholds the sons of men, from the place of his habitation he looks upon all the inhabitants of the earth (Psalm 33:13-14). Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord: and the people whom he has chosen for his own inheritance (Psalm 33:12).
Many once godly nations, have allowed the ungodliness of man to rule the day; rather than the righteous. They have bowed down to the leadership of the ungodly rather than oppose its fruition. They have forfeited their right to be called blessed and are no longer under the protective umbrella of God.
There is a day of reckoning as man swallows up the evils promoted in the Pre-flood days of Noah, Sodom and Gomorrah, and Babylon which was the hold of every foul spirit. Scripture reveals: Whereby the world that then was (the Pre-flood days of Noah), being overflowed with water, perished: the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against (until) the day of judgment and perdition (destruction) of ungodly men.
The day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night (totally unexpected by many); in which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works (ungodliness) that are therein shall be burned up (2 Peter 3:9-10).
As we see the inhumanity of mankind being ripen towards God's judgment; these warnings should not take one by surprise; but it will, because many will find themselves unprepared, indulging in the pleasantries of what is happening which will only hasten the day of reckoning.
Scripture reveals: Seeing that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought you to be in all holy conversation (conduct) and godliness (2 Peter 3:11). Wherefore seeing that you look for such things, be diligent that you may be found of him (Jesus) in peace, without spot, and blameless (2 Peter 3:14).
Nevertheless we (the believer in Christ), according to his promise, look for new heavens, and a new earth, wherein dwells righteousness (2 Peter 3:13). The hope of every Christian is not in what this world offers; but God's promise to His faithful and unwavering people!
It was noted that the Christian is to fight the good fight of faith; not give in to the evils of our day, but resist being poured into the mold of present day thinking, and stand for Christ. The Psalmist wrote: Have respect to the covenant (God's promises): for the dark places of the earth are full of the habitations of cruelty (violence) (Psalm 74:20). Deliver me, O my God, out of the hand of the wicked, out of the hand of the unrighteous and cruel man (inhumanity of man) (Psalm 71:4).
Scripture reveals: If we say that we have fellowship with him (God), and walk in darkness (evilness), we lie, and do not the truth (practice the truth): but if we walk in the light as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son (which he shed on the Cross of Calvary) cleanses us from all sin (1 John 1:6-7).
Inhumanity of man began with Cain, spoken of in the Book of Genesis, and has prevailed since that eventful day. The antidote lies in Jesus Christ, the author and finisher of our faith, who is able to preserve His own towards a heavenly gain!
