DRIFT
INTRODUCTION
A progressive cultural drift is happening in lands once under the influence of Almighty God but have allowed the dominating power of a progressive movement to be ushered in! Progressives are disposed towards instituting governmental policies that embrace their liberal views. The term cultural denotes distinctive ways of living fashioned by a group of people.
It was noted that we are witnessing the invocation of Socialism that would take away basic freedoms enhanced by Capitalism and Conservatism. Adoption of a socialist movement would lead to the demise of basic principles of democracy that were fought for.
Progressive Cultural Drift
A Power Struggle
There are those who have darkened the prospect of a "One Nation Under God" concept by adverting people's attention to self-gain rather than a godly stance. There is a power struggle towards indifference to God's Word by issuing forth a progressive cultural drift that would damage or destroy a democratic godly culture.
There is a progressive movement that is attempting to delete basic freedoms that has been the make-up of a nation formed by godly men under a Constitution that established those freedoms. Conservatives and Progressives are in an opposing struggle that involves the future of the nation.
If Progressives cannot pass laws to sustain their agenda; they often turn to judges, and other methods, to enhance their cause; even overturning the will of the people. Conservatives believe in individual rights not special rights. Progressives seek to dominate the will of the people by leading them as a puppet before a puppeteer.
Will of the People
Once I seen a butterfly caught in the snare of a spider's web. I freed it for the spider had not yet began its devious work, and it flew up "freed" from its entrapment. It was a beautiful sight to behold, and that is what God wants to see in His people, freed from entrapment that would lead into an ungodly culture.
The progressive cultural drift beautifies its cultural change to enhance its acceptance by the people. When mainstream and social media dominate a nation, with bias reporting, it deceives the people towards acceptance of a progressive cultural drift, enhances its agenda, strips away basic freedoms, before one realizes the full impact of such.
Devilish Impulses
The Apostle Paul told Timothy, a young evangelist, that evil men and seducers shall wax (grow) worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived. But continue in the things which you have been assured of, knowing of whom you have learned them (2 Timothy 3:13-14).
Continue means to remain steadfast; just because there is a progressive cultural drift does not mean one has to be caught up in its devilish impulses; but rather reject them. Timothy had been well-versed in the Holy Scriptures, through the influence of a godly mother and grandmother, and was to hold fast (remain) in what he knew to be the truth.
It was noted that if we ever forget that we are one nation under God then we will be a nation gone under. True peace is justice, true peace is freedom, and true peace dictates the recognition of human rights (Ronald Reagan).
Looking to Government
A progressive cultural drift will enhance a withdrawing from God who sustains any nation that continually looks to Him! The Psalmist wrote: Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord; and the people whom he has chosen for his own inheritance (Psalm 33:12). Let your mercy, O Lord, be upon us, according as we hope in you (Psalm 33:22).
A progressive society does not want its people to look to God who sustains but rather to the government to fulfill its needs. In a progressive cultural drift there are those who seek to dominate; to erase any productive reasoning, with one becoming a slave to the one who seeks to dominate!
The Psalmist wrote: The tongue devises mischief (plans destruction); like a sharp razor, working deceitfully. You love evil more than good; and a lying rather than to speak righteousness (Psalm 52:2-3). When a nation does not convey truth; but seeks to dominate through lies and untruths, it should give one amply reason to steer away from what is being promoted.
You Shall Know
Them
The Apostle Paul wrote: Foolish and unlearned questions avoid (ignorant disputes), knowing that they do gender (generate) strife (2 Timothy 2:23). The progressive cultural drift of today will give one just enough of God's Word to make one feel that such is of a godly nature.
Jesus said: Wherefore by their fruits, you shall know them (Matthew 7:20). Fruits refers to actions of their lives and the doctrines they proclaim! There are many today who have been ensnared by the progressive cultural drift; through deceptive words and actions of the Progressives.
Power Struggle
It was noted that modern man is the victim of the very instruments he values most. Every gain in power, every mastery of natural forces, every scientific addition to knowledge, has proved potentially dangerous, because it has not been accompanied by equal rights in self-understand and self-discipline (Lewis Mumford).
There has been a compulsive need towards gain in power, even world dominance, by nations that have gone pass a progressive cultural drift to control the masses through domination. There are others in the early stages of such; either through political gain or power struggles that are ongoing, who attempt to destroy all opposition.
Rule of a Few
An unknown author wrote: Love America (or any nation) but love her wisely. Work hard to cure the faults, the mistakes under which she labors. Do not leave her to be ruled by a few who make it their business and profit to rule. She is yours.
As we see the progressive cultural drift of today, egged on by a few who seek to dominate; it is imperative that they not be allowed to gain control! We see the effect of such in many nations of the world; having lost basic freedoms once enjoyed.
Fruit of Righteousness
Turned into Hemlock
The Prophet Amos noted there will be a time that the fruit of righteousness will be turned into hemlock (Amos 6:12). It is interesting to note that the word hemlock refers to a plant that poison is derived from. Poison infects or pollutes the body until injury, illness, or death results.
It can be a harmful influence such as will ruin, taint, inhibit, or embitter. When this influence creeps in; it can cripple a nation's godly stance; with the domineering influence of people's ruling; rather than allowing God to reign in the heart of a nation.
There has been a trend towards acceptance of ungodliness as the pre-Flood days of Noah, Sodom and Gomorrah, and Babylon the hold of every foul spirit. A progressive cultural drift towards the morals of a nation can, and will, eventfully be its downfall; unless a Nineveh type repentance takes place.
Perilous Times
The Apostle Paul wrote: This know that in the last days perilous times shall come (2 Timothy 3:1). Some of the traits would be: Despisers of those that are good, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God, having a form of godliness; ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth, which we are seeing happening in our modern day culture.
We are seeing truth being masked over with falsehoods that are being embraced as truth. We are seeing a younger generation that no longer embraces the truths of yesteryear, or God's Word. A progressive cultural drift has been responsible with no insight towards a corrective course; with many churches losing sight of adherence to God's Word.
Will Not Endure Sound
Doctrine
The Apostle Paul instructed Timothy, a young evangelist: Preach the Word; be instant (ready) in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts (desires) shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; and they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned into fables (that which is fictitious).
But watch you in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of your ministry (2 Timothy 4:2-5). A progressive cultural drift is not the time to let down; but to stand for the truths of God's Word, despite any cultural drift to undermine such!
Pray Without Ceasing
Let us pray, without ceasing, against a progressive cultural drift attempting to embellish the land; that the hand of God will bring such to no avail. The Psalmist wrote: The Lord brings the counsel of the heathen (nations) to nought: he makes the devices (plans) of the people of none effect (Psalm 33:10).
Scripture gives the recipe for any nation that has gone adrift from God: If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land (2 Chronicles 7:14).
It was noted that while this promise was originally given to King Solomon regarding the people of Israel, it is certainly applicable to all who will call on the Lord in repentance and faith. This verse stands as a high expression of God's loving readiness to hear the prayers of a repentant people!
