Spawning of ungodliness is becoming enhanced by the electronic age that has blossomed forth in these latter days towards instant social interaction, information, and entertainment. If such were to be alleviated, to those addicted to its influence, it would cause a withdrawal syndrome.
Spawning is a mass amount of eggs being deposited by fish or amphibians. The salmon swims upstream to spawn in the stream where they were themselves hatched. They migrate to this spot impelled by instinct; fighting the rapids, leaping high falls to reach their spawning grounds.
There is a similarity in the fact that when one attempts the spawning of ungodliness they will, as the salmon, go to all extremes to plant their venomous influence. Similar words are contrive, cook up, fabricate, and strike out. (Comment)
On the Day of Pentecost when the apostle Peter spoke to those gathered on that day; the people were cut to the heart by the words spoken, asking: What shall we do? Peter answered: Save yourselves from this untoward (or morally perverse) generation (Acts 2:37-40).
Such advice is needful today as we see a vast spawning of ungodliness being promulgated with little or no restraint. The ungodly culture being spread is being consumed; even by many churches in Western nations, who have become blinded to the righteousness required in God's Word (Romans 1:18).
A famous 19th century French statesman, and historian, traveled to America to discover the reasons for the incredible success of this new nation. He wrote: Not until I went into the churches of America and heard her pulpits flame with righteousness did I understand the secret of her genius and power.
A legendary evangelist of the first Great Awakening, Charles G. Finney noted: Brethren, our preaching will bear its legitimate fruits. If immorality prevails in the land, the fault is ours to a great degree. If there is a decay of conscience, the pulpit is responsible for it. If the church is degenerate and worldly, the pulpit is responsible for it. Let us not ignore this fact; but let us lay it to heart, and awake to our responsibility in respect to the morals of this nation.
Dereliction of duty in the pulpit has helped promote the spawning of ungodliness. There are those who have been silenced, through acceptance of the ungodly culture being presented, with little restraint being put forth to dwarf its advancement.
Spawning of ungodliness has become increasingly more advanced in our electronic age with the promotion of profanity, vulgarity, and nudity. We are seeing this advancement rob once godly nations of their morals and Christian heritage with few standing in the gap for the land that God's judgment would not fall.
Many, even Christians, are becoming desensitized or immune to the ungodly language structure, immoral portrayals, and nudity being displayed; viewing films of questionable content with little conviction or shame. Scripture does not condone the behavioral habits that is being allowed to penetrate their lives (Jeremiah 6:18).
Scripture reveals: Blessed is the man that walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful (Psalm 1:1). For an ungodly man digs up evil; and in his lips there is as a burning fire (Proverbs 16:27).
God's Word gives amply instruction to not be influenced by the spawning of ungodliness; which spreads its infectious influence, unless one is well-versed in God's Word which warns against such pitfalls.
Scripture reveals that certain men had crept in unawares, ungodly men, turning the grace of God into lasciviousness (or a license to immorality) (Jude 1:4). The only difference today is that such have become bold, self-proclaiming of their ungodly lifestyles, with no sense of shame but rather pride in the fact.
The spawning of ungodliness has not gone unnoticed by God. Scripture reveals that God will execute judgment upon all, and to convict all that are ungodly among them, of their ungodly deeds which they have ungodly committed (Jude 1:15).
How God spared the old world, but saved Noah the eighth person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly (2 Peter 2:5). How God turned the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah into ashes condemning them to destruction, as an example to those that afterward should live ungodly (2 Peter 2:6).
That the Lord knows how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust to the day of judgment to be punished (2 Peter 2:9). How that the heavens and the earth, which are now are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men (2 Peter 3:7).
Such words give warning to the wicked but a promise to the faithful. The ungodly may feel like they are victorious in their endeavor towards the spawning of ungodliness but God's Word indicates: The wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold (or suppress) the truth in unrighteousness (Romans 1:18).
Scripture reveals: The time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God; and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God. And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear (1 Peter 4:17-18).
The church world, in many Western nations, is vastly different from previous years of commitment towards the Word of God. The spawning of ungodliness has infiltrated the modern day church; with acceptance and tolerance being the makeup of the church.
Scripture reveals: Know this, that in the last days perilous times shall come; telling of some of the characteristics of those days: Men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, high-minded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof (2 Timothy 3:1-5). A form of godliness is mere religion without power or spiritual life.
The last church age spoken of in the Book of Revelations is the Laodicean church, a lukewarm church, that Christ said he would spew out of his mouth (Revelation 3:16).
Laodicean means "People Ruling" representing the unbelieving, materialistic church of all ages. Through the spawning of ungodliness; worldliness has been allowed to infiltrate the church, with such terms as: sanctification (being set apart to God), righteousness (that which is right in the sight of God), and holiness (without which no man shall see the Lord - Hebrews 12:14) becoming a byproduct of the church.
God's Word reveals: Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering (Hebrews 10:23). The just shall live by faith: but if any man drawback, my soul shall have no pleasure in him (Hebrews 10:38)l Present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world (Romans 12:1-2).
The spawning of ungodliness has come in like a flood but does not mean that one has to succumb to such an influence. When one is grounded in God's Word, having accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, forgiven of all sin, the world looks vastly different than prior to one's conversion in Christ.
Scripture reveals: The wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. Being made free from sin, we become servants to God, having our fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life (John 3:22-23).
