Spirit of wisdom attributes to a God-given ability to accomplish that which God desires for the good of mankind; with man taking such to enhance his own agenda, offsetting the good originally intended.
We see this happening in the electronic age of television, internet, film industry, and many other venues, which have allowed the ungodliness of man to infiltrate, placing the morals of the land in shambles.
Wisdom; when attributed of God influences such virtues as honesty, sobriety, chastity, reputation; including technical skills given to man. Scripture reveals of one such instance: And you (or Moses) shall speak to all that are wisehearted, whom I have filled with the spirit of wisdom, that they may make Aaron's (the High Priest) garments to consecrate him, that he may minister to me in the priest's office (Exodus 28:3).
Scripture identifies the wisdom of believers in comparison to the wisdom of the world: Now we have received not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit which is of God; that we might know the things freely given to us of God (1 Corinthians 2:12). But the natural man receives not the things of the Spirit of God; for they are foolishness to him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned (1 Corinthians 2:14).
A Bible commentary noted: The natural man is unreceptive. He does not admit the truth to his heart. As spiritual discernment is generated only by the Spirit of God, the capacity to know spiritual truth is beyond the innate powers of the natural man. On the spiritual plane, the natural man (without God's Spirit) does not have the ability to sift the facts.
Scripture reveals: Wherein in time past you walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air (or Satan), the spirit that now works in the children of disobedience: among whom also we all had our conversation (or conducted ourselves) in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others (Ephesians 2:2-3).
Children of wrath refers to those facing the divine punishment of God. Scripture reveals: And I (or John) saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life; and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works (Revelation 20:12).
A Bible commentary noted: The dead are the unbelieving dead; they are judged from the books. These books contain the record of every unsaved person's life with each unsaved person being judged in accordance with their works.
Scripture reveals: And whosoever is not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire (Revelation 20:15). A Bible commentary noted: The book of life contains the name of every person who has received eternal life through faith. The unsaved person are shown that they did not take advantage of the offer of eternal life though faith.
God's Word identifies the works of the flesh (the sinful nature of man): Adultery (sex with someone other than one's spouse), fornication (sex outside biblical marriage), uncleanness (sexual impurity), lasciviousness (sexual excess), idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance (strife or discord), emulations (or jealousy), wrath, strife, seditions (or dissensions), heresies, envying, murders, drunkenness, revelings, and such like: of which I tell you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God (Galatians 5:19-21).
is speaking of individuals who habitually partake of the sinful nature
of man (or fleshly desires). The fate of continued
participation, without repentance, is stated by the apostle Paul: They which did such
things shall not inherit the kingdom of God (Galatians 5:21). Many have fallen into such a category in a day that the spirit of the world is more accommodating than the spirit of wisdom to avoid such pitfalls.
An illustration of lacking the spirit of wisdom, and its consequences, is noted in God's Word: The whole earth was of one language and one speech (Genesis 11:1). And they said, Go to, let us build a city and a tower, whose top may reach to heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon (or over) the face of the whole earth (Genesis 11:4).
A Bible commentary noted: To make us a name was a focal point of rebellion against God. The very thing they were attempting to oppose; of being scattered upon the face of the earth, was instituted by God to dwarf their endeavors. They had become a godless society, lacking wisdom, full of pretensions, pleasures, and sin with no regard toward God; such had not gone unnoticed by God.
Scripture reveals: The Lord brings the counsel of the heathen (or nations) to nought: he makes the devices (or plans) of the people of none effect (Psalm 33:10). The Lord looks from heaven; he beholds all the sons of men. From the place of his habitation he looks upon all the inhabitants of the earth. He fashions their hearts alike (or individually); he considers (or understands) all their works (Psalm 33:13-15). As in the case of the building of the city and tower towards heaven; God is not unaware of which is happening in our world today!
God informed Moses: I have filled him (Bezaleel) with the spirit of God, in wisdom, and in understanding, and in knowledge, and all manner of workmanship (Exodus 31:3). To work all manner of work, for the service of the sanctuary, many were called and filled with the spirit of wisdom to perform the craftsmanship to accomplish such a feat.
I wonder how many, in past and present, have received a spirit of wisdom towards inventing the things we now enjoy? When initially invented they were for the betterment of mankind. An example would be the invention of television; which was at first of wholesome family entertainment and learning, with moral values being taught.
Then little by little immoral content begin to filter in. The major networks allowed the erosion of godly values to escalate; by allowing their censorship departments to be done away with; first two of the major networks, then the third.
God does not leave one in a sinful condition; if they will allow His Word to touch their heart and life. Scripture reveals: God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loves us, even when we were dead in sins, has quickened (or made us alive) together with Christ, by grace (or His unmerited love), you are (or have been) saved (Ephesians 2:3-5).
Still fresh in my mind (42 years ago) is the day of my salvation! It was a glorious day; the lifting of a sin-ridden life towards a heavenly gain. There was a walking away from the condemnation of past sins, to a blood bought life in Christ, who died for me, and all who will come to know Him, by shedding His precious blood for the remission of sins.
Scripture reveals: If we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his (or God's) Son cleanses us from all sin. If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us (1 John 1:7-8).
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9). And if any man sin, we have an advocate (or intercessor) with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous: and he is the propitiation (or atonement) for our sins; and not for our sins only, but also for the sins of the whole world (1 John 2:1-2). The spirit of wisdom is in receiving what God provided for mankind so long ago; that is just as fresh, and viable, today as then!
