Spirit of wisdom attributes to a God-given ability to accomplish that which God desires for the good of mankind. However, man has taken such to enhance his own agenda; oftentimes offsetting the good originally intended.
We see such happen in the electronic age of television, the internet, the film industry, and many other avenues, which have allowed the ungodliness of man to infiltrate, placing the morals of the land in a shambles. (Comment)
Wisdom; when attributed of God (Proverbs 3:19) influences such virtues as industry, honesty, sobriety, chastity, reputation; including technical skills given to man (Exodus 28:3).
Scripture identifies the wisdom of believers in comparison to the wisdom of this world: We have received not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit which is of God: that we might know the things freely given to us of God. For the natural man receives not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness to him; neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned (1 Corinthians 1:12-14).
God's Word gives a description of the children of wrath: Where in time past you walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air (or Satan), the spirit that now works in the children of disobedience: among whom we all conducted ourselves in times past, in the lusts of the flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others (Ephesians 2:2-3).
Children of wrath refers to those facing the divine punishment of God; in which the dead, small and great, shall stand before God; and the books will be opened: and another book opened which is the Book of Life; and the dead will be judged out of those things written in the books, according to their works. And whosoever is not found written in the Book of Life will be cast into the lake of fire (Revelation 20:12-15).
God's Word identifies the works of the flesh (the sinful nature of man): Adultery (sex with someone other than their spouse), fornication (sex outside biblical marriage), uncleanness (sexual impurity), lasciviousness (sexual excess), idolatry, witchcraft, variance (strife or discord), jealousy, seditions, heresies, envying, murders, drunkenness, revelings, and such like (Galatians 5:19-21).
is speaking of individuals who habitually partake of the sinful nature
of man (or fleshly desires). The fate of continued
participation, without repentance, is stated: They which did such
things shall not inherit the kingdom of God (Galatians 5:21). Many have fallen into such a category in a day that the spirit of the world is more accommodating than the spirit of wisdom to avoid such pitfalls.
An illustration of lacking the spirit of wisdom, and its consequences, is noted in God's Word: The whole earth was of one language and one speech. And they said; Let us build a city and a tower, whose top may reach to heaven; and let us make a name, lest we be scattered abroad over the face of the earth (Genesis 11:1-4).
A Bible commentary noted: To make us a name was a focal point of rebellion against God. The very thing they were attempting to oppose; of being scattered upon the face of the earth, was instituted by God to dwarf their endeavors. They had become a godless society, lacking wisdom, full of pretensions, pleasures, and sin with no regard toward God.
Such had not gone unnoticed by God, for the 33rd Psalm states: The Lord looks down from heaven; he beholds all the sons of men. The eye of the Lord is upon them that fear him (the beginning of wisdom), upon them that hope in his mercy. The Lord also brings to counsel of the nations to nought; he makes the devices of the people of no effect. As in the case of the building of the city and tower towards heaven; God is not unaware of which is happening in the world today!
God's Word reveals that the spirit of wisdom was imparted to many to fulfill His will. When Aaron was called to minister in the priest's office; the Lord God told Moses that you shall speak to all who are wise hearted, whom I have filled with the spirit of wisdom, that they may make Aaron's garments that he may minister to me in the priest's office (Exodus 28:1-3).
In another time God informed Moses that he had called individuals by name; and filled them with the spirit of God, in wisdom, and in understanding, and in knowledge, and all manner of workmanship towards preparation of the sanctuary of God (Exodus 31:3). In the building of the Temple of God; in King Solomon's time, many were called and filled with the spirit of wisdom to perform the craftsmanship to accomplish such a feat.
I wonder how many, in past and present, have received a spirit of wisdom towards inventing the things we now enjoy? When initially invented they were for the betterment of mankind. An example would be the invention of television; which was at first of wholesome family entertainment and learning, with moral values being taught.
Then little by little immoral content begin to filtered in. The major networks allowed the erosion of godly values to escalate; by allowing their censorship departments to be done away with; first two of the major networks, then the third.
God does not leave one in a sinful condition (John 3:16); if they will allow His Word to touch their heart and life. Scripture reveals: God, who is rich in mercy for his great love wherewith he loves us, even when we were dead in sins, has made us alive through Christ, for by grace (or His unmerited love), you are saved (Ephesians 2:4-5).
Still fresh in my mind (41 years ago) is the day of my salvation.
It was a glorious day; the lifting of a sin-ridden life towards a
heavenly gain. There was the walking away from the condemnation of past
sins (1 John 1:9), to a blood bought life in Christ, who died for me,
and all who will come to know Him, by shedding His precious blood for
the remission of sins (1 John 1:7). The spirit of wisdom is in receiving what God provided for mankind so long ago; but still as fresh today as when given.
