INTRODUCTION
Ungodly lifestyles of today have proved to be detrimental to nations who have walked away from godliness and have lifestyles condemned in God’s Word.
The Prophet Isaiah, in speaking the words of the Lord, proclaimed: Woe to them that call evil good and good evil; that put darkness for light and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter! Woe to them that are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight (Isaiah 5:20-21)!
Ungodly Lifestyles of Today
Identification
Some notable ungodly lifestyles of today are: Homosexuality, same sex marriage, transgenderism, which attempts to alter one’s God-given identity at birth; to name but a few ungodly lifestyles being promoted without remorse or acknowledgement of the evilness associated with such activities!
The Prophet Jeremiah, in speaking the words of the Lord, said: Were they ashamed when they had committed abomination? No, they were not at all ashamed, neither could the blush; therefore they shall fall among them that fall: at the time that I visit (punish) them they shall be cast down, saith the Lord (Jeremiah 6:12).
Moral Degeneration
It was noted that the people’s stubborn refusal to walk in the traditional ways of true righteousness was often mentioned by Jeremiah. Moving in their own paths and following their own way (adopted lifestyles contrary to God’s Word) would only lead to destruction. The contrast of the way of righteousness and life; and the way of the ungodly and death, is often referred to in the Scriptures.
We need more willing to sound the alarm against the ungodly lifestyles of today; to make people aware of sin's destructive nature. It was noted that it is estimated that the average duration of the world’s great civilizations has been about 200 years. A study of these civilizations reveals that their mortality was not due to the lack of mental ability but to moral degeneration.
Lifestyles Once Condemned
Now Embraced
Ungodly lifestyles once condemned are now embraced with laws and rulings made to accommodate such lifestyles! Ungodly lifestyles are even being promoted by some within the church. It was noted that we are living in a very permissive day when the religious world is so tolerant to most any and all kinds of standards and lifestyles.
This permissiveness and tolerance is the result of a self-willed and carnal minded society. As a result of tolerance and permissiveness, there are many churches, and even denominations, which have altered their teachings, their standards, and even their interpretations of the Scriptures to please, to comply with, and accommodate this permissive and tolerant society. Very few people this day hold to their heart’s convictions. They change to blend in with their environment!
Losing Sight of Morals
of Yesteryear
Every thinking man realizes that the teachings of the Bible; if interwoven with our whole civic and social life, would be literally impossible for us to figure what life would be if those teachings were removed! We would lose almost all the standards by which we now judge both public and private morals; all the standards towards which we strive to raise ourselves (Theodore Roosevelt).
It is unfortunate but many are losing sight of the morals of yesteryear because they are no longer being taught or exercised. We are finding out what life is like with a lack of morals or desire to walk in a godly way as revealed in God’s Word. We are seeing the eruption of violence, chaos, evilness running rampant, as man continues supporting ungodliness and lifestyles reflective of such a nature!
Perilous Times
The Apostle Paul told Timothy, a young evangelist: This know that in the last day (which we are in) perilous times shall come; men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous (money lovers), boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent (without self-control).
Fierce, despisers of those that are good; traitors, heady (reckless), high-minded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away (2 Timothy 3:1-5). As a nation, and its people, puts aside God and His Word, through ungodly lifestyles of today, condemned in God’s Word, they are withdrawing from His protective shield and provision of the Almighty God.

Sounding the Alarm
It was noted that if humanity continues to drift morally and socially during the next century as it did during the present one, we will sink into the abyss of total corruption and despair. When people conduct their lives as though there is no God, who knows and judges every person, evil can and will abound. The most dangerous society is one in which people have no sense of accountability to God, and no fear of God.
If truth is not promulgated, error will be; if the power of the Gospel is not felt throughout the length and breadth of the land, anarchy and misrule, degradation and misery, corruption and darkness will reign without mitigation or end (Daniel Webster).
Voices of the past often venture into the future with meaningful words that fit the moral character of a present day environment. Ungodly lifestyles of today have been the ruin of many a nation, having opted God out of the picture, and supportive of such lifestyles.
Absorbing Ungodly
Lifestyles
The Psalmist warned of acceptance of ungodly lifestyles, declaring: They (the people) were mingled among heathen (ungodly), and learned their works (lifestyles). And they served their (the heathens) idols which were a snare to them (Psalm 106:35-36).
It was noted that they not only dwelt among them, but intermarried with them, absorbing their idolatrous practices (lifestyles). They embraced that which became a snare to them; bringing them into captivity of that which is contrary to God and His Word, bringing evil and calamities upon themselves.
Result of Sinful
Lifestyles
The Prophet Hosea, in speaking the words of the Lord, identified ungodly lifestyles that bring no satisfaction but rather increased desire to fall more and more into their deceitful ways: They shall eat, and not have enough: they shall commit whoredom, and shall not increase: because they have left off to take heed to the Lord (ceased obeying) (Hosea 4:10).
It was noted that what they consumed did not satisfy or nourish them (as the ungodly lifestyles of today never satisfy), for their appetites will still be greedy for more of the same. It was noted that sinful lifestyles will do three things in one’s life: It will take one where they never intended to go; keep one longer than they intended to stay; and cost one more than they intended to pay!
Way of the Wicked
Scripture reveals: The way of the wicked is as darkness: they know not at what they stumble (Proverbs 4:19). It was noted that such are in darkness of sin, ignorance, error, and unbelief; their works (ungodly lifestyles) are works of darkness; the way which leads to eternal darkness, ruin, and misery.
Jonathan Edwards sermon “Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God" contained these words: Consider the fearful danger that you are in: You hang by a slender thread, with the flames of divine wrath flashing about it, and ready every moment to singe it, and burn it asunder. You have no interest in any mediator, and nothing to hold on to save yourself, nothing to keep the flames of wrath away, nothing of your own, nothing that you have done, nothing that you can do, to induce God to spare you one moment.
Those words still ring loud and clear today towards endangered souls who are about to descend into eternity (Hell) without the benefit of a Savior (the Lord Jesus Christ), unless repentance comes into focus prior to Judgment Day.
Renewed in the Spirit
of One's Mind
The Apostle Paul wrote: Put off concerning the former conversation (conduct) of the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts. And be renewed in the spirit of your mind. And put on the new man which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness (Ephesians 4:22-24).
It was noted that one is to put off the old man, to renounce one’s pre-conversion life of sin; to be renewed in the mind, constantly changed, being brought more and more in line with God’s Word; putting on the new man, that is, to assume a new nature (character) and conduct (life) after conversation to Christ. A new heart, new spirit, new eyes to see with (previously blinded by sin), ears to hear with, having the newness of life, walking in accordance with God’s Word; no longer bound by the ungodly lifestyles of today!
Freedom Given
Beauty of Salvation
I witness a monarch butterfly that had been caught in the snare of a spider’s web; I leaned over and freed it from its entrapment, for the spider had not yet began its work, and it flew up “freed!” It was a beautiful sight to behold, and that is what God wants to see in His people, freed from the ungodly lifestyles of today, that so readily ensnare them! He gave us His best in providing His only begotten Son, as an atonement for our sins, which frees us from a sinful life, with freedom given through His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, as our Lord and Savior.
The ugliness of what the spider was going to do to such a beautiful butterfly was undone by a moment of kindness and such is the beauty of salvation that frees one from the ugliness of a sinful life into the beauty of holiness! Apostle Paul noted: Being made free from sin, we become servants (disciples) to God, having our fruit unto holiness; and the end everlasting life (Romans 6:22).
