Battering ram against righteousness is descriptive of a cultural revolution that is threatening the very core of a nation under God concept. The battering ram was a military weapon in ancient times to beat down the walls of a besieged place. It was highly effective particularly when in use by the Roman army.
Figurative speaking it is being used in a modern day moral breakdown to ram away at any opposition to stop or advert its advance. Many nations are becoming immune to Biblical guidance; or even allowance for such, and becoming a thorn in the side towards its advancement.
The 2015 U. S. Supreme Court ruling legalizing same sex marriage was only a prelude to another earth shaking moral breakdown; the transgender movement. Its acceptance by an immoral society has fostered additional problems towards Biblical values being threatened, with an attempt to drastically reduce such values through a battering ram against righteousness mentality.
Moral decay is in direct opposition to the righteousness of God. Scripture reveals: Wisdom rests in the heart of him that has understanding: but that which is in the midst of fools is made known. Righteousness exalts a nation: but sin is a reproach (disgrace) to any people (Proverbs 14:33-34).
National righteousness and National sin have oppose effects: exaltation versus reproach. Laws are being instituted as a battering ram against righteousness, along with judicial rulings, that rule in favor of unrighteousness rather than the righteousness of God. The capacity towards ungodliness is flourishing in a merciless assault in direct opposition to God's Word.
The Unadulterated Word of God needs to ring loud and clear in any nation which deems itself as a nation under God! The Apostle Paul instructed Timothy, a young evangelist: Preach the word: be instant (ready) in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.
For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine (the Unadulterated Word of God); but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; and they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned into fables (2 Timothy 4:2-4).
It was noted that preaching is the God-ordained means to prevent defection from the truth. Teachers who appeal to itching ears tell people what they want to hear, not what they need to hear. The result of such is being turned into fables (that which is fictitious) rather than adherence to the Unadulterated (Pure) Word of God.
A legendary evangelist of the first Great Awakening, Charles G. Finney stated: Brethren, our preaching will bear its legitimate fruits. If immorality prevails in the land, the fault is ours to a great degree. If there is a decay of conscience, the pulpit is responsible for it. If the church is degenerate and worldly, the pulpit is responsible for it.
If Satan rules in our halls of justice, the pulpit is responsible for it. If our politics become so corrupt that the very foundations of our government are ready to fall away, the pulpit is responsible for it. Let us not ignore this fact; but let us lay it to heart, and awake to our responsibility in respect to the morals of this nation.
A famous 19th century French statesman and historian traveled to America to discover the reasons for the incredible success of this new nation, he wrote: I sought for the key to the greatness in America in her harbors; in her fertile fields and commerce; in her public school system and institutions of learning. I sought for it in her Constitution. Not until I went into the churches of America and heard her pulpits aflame with righteousness did I understand the secret of her genius and power.
We are seeing a culture revolution, by those exercising a battering ram against righteousness ushering in homosexuality, biblical marriage giving way to same sex marriage, and a transgender movement that questions one's God-given identity at birth!
Who could have imagined the chaos being created by a transgender movement? Who would have imagined medication and surgery to make such a change possible! Who would have imagined the sex, nudity, and language evolution that has taken place? Who would have imagined the drugs, alcohol, and immorality that has surfaced?
We are in a crucial moment throughout what were once identified as Christian nations! Many want secular values without reference to God, freedom to exercise certain practices that God's Word condemns, openly flaunting such with pride; inviting participation and acceptability by all.
It will take a mighty outpouring of God's Spirit; and a willingness to pay heed to "What Thus Saith the Lord" to awake people out of their acceptance of ungodly ways and attitude of tolerance towards allowing such to take place!
Many nations need a renewal in God; to return to His ways, not that of man's devising. The Apostle Paul wrote: I bear them record (witness) that they have a zeal of (for) God, but not according to knowledge. For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, are going about to establish their own righteousness, having not submitted themselves to the righteousness of God (Romans 10:2-3). Leadership needs to be instilled with godly values; not to depart from them due to the influence of an immoral society.
The battering ram against righteousness; allowing the ungodliness of man to flourish, is an ongoing problem that needs to be addressed, before God intervenes with His judgment! Many times throughout Scripture, a warning was given, with man ignoring such, then judgment came!
Scripture reveals: The word of the Lord came to Jonah saying, arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and preach to it the preaching (message) that I bid (tell) you (Jonah 3:1-2). And as Jonah began to enter into the city a day's journey, and he cried (cried out) and said, Yet forty days, and Nineveh shall be overthrown.
The people believed God, and proclaimed a fast, and put on sackcloth (a sign of repentance), from the greatest of them even to the least of them (Jonah 3:4-5). And God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way (no longer a battering ram against righteousness); and God repented (relented) of the evil, that he had said that he would do to them; and he did it not (Jonah 3:10).
It was noted that God did not change in His ultimate intention toward the Ninevites: rather they changed in their attitude toward Him. On the basis of that change, God could deal with them in grace, rather than in judgment as their failure would have necessitated. We are in dire need of a Nineveh type repentance in many nations; to do away with the battering ram against righteousness, and embrace the righteousness that God demands of His people!
